Arizona Diamondbacks (17-6) at San Diego Padres (9-15), 4:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - A battle between the last two Cy Young Award winners in the National League is on tap this afternoon, when Brandon Webb leads the Arizona Diamondbacks in the finale of a three-game series against Jake Peavy and the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.

Webb, who won the Cy Young in 2006, is 5-0 with a 2.31 ERA in five starts this season. He has lasted at least six innings and allowed no more than three runs in each of those outings. Webb last pitched on Tuesday versus San Francisco, yielding three runs in six innings of a 5-4 victory.

The right-hander is 3-0 on the road this season, but just 4-7 with a 3.78 ERA in 19 career starts against the NL West-rival Padres.

Arizona lost for just third time in 11 games after Saturday's 8-7 setback in 13 innings against the Padres. Tadahito Iguchi's solo homer in the bottom of the 13th inning lifted San Diego to victory, while Orlando Hudson tripled and drove in two runs for the Diamondbacks, who had a two-game win streak ended. Chris Young was 2-for-6 with a solo home run, while Eric Byrnes had two hits and scored twice in defeat.

D'Backs reliever Yusmeiro Petit absorbed the loss for giving up Iguchi's blast in the 13th. Starter Micah Owings allowed five runs on five hits in five innings, but helped his own cause at the plate with three hits, an RBI and two runs scored before leaving the game with a twisted ankle.

Glendon Rusch earned the win yesterday for San Diego with four scoreless innings in relief, allowing just two hits. Starter Justin Germano, though, struggled on the mound and gave up six runs on six hits over five-plus innings of work.

Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-6 with three runs batted in, and Brian Giles belted a solo homer and scored twice for the Padres.

Peavy, meanwhile, is also unbeaten thus far in 2008 with a 3-0 record and a 2.00 ERA in five starts. Peavy has notched back-to-back no decisions and yielded four runs and seven hits through six innings of an 11-7 loss at Houston on Tuesday.

The righty and 2007 Cy Young Award recipient has hit six innings or more in each of his starts, and is 10-9 with a 5.11 earned run average in 22 career performances against Arizona.

The Diamondbacks took two of three games against San Diego from April 18-20 this season, and are 13-10 in the last 23 meetings in the series.
