LA Angels of Anaheim (15-10) at Detroit Tigers (11-14), 8:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Justin Verlander tries to string back-to-back wins together for the first time this season when the Detroit Tigers play the rubber match of their three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim tonight at Comerica Park.

Verlander picked up his first win of the campaign on Tuesday against Texas, holding the Rangers to just a run and six hits in six innings, as he snapped a three-start losing streak and improved to 1-3 on the year with a 5.93 earned run average.

The 25-year-old right-hander has faced the Angels twice in his career and is 0-1 against them with a 2.08 ERA.

Los Angeles will counter with a 25-year-old right-hander of its own in Jered Weaver, who is also 1-3 on the season, but is pitching to a 4.50 ERA. Weaver received a no-decision on Tuesday in Boston, as he surrendered five runs and 10 hits in five innings of a 7-6 loss.

Weaver is 1-1 lifetime against the Tigers, serving up 13 runs (11 earned) and 18 hits in two starts, lasting a total of seven innings against them.

On Saturday, Armando Galarraga carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and the Tigers broke a tie with three runs in the seventh, as Detroit eked out a 6-4 win in the second game of this series.

Galarraga, starting in place of the injured Dontrelle Willis, surrendered three runs -- one earned -- on three hits and fanned three in six-plus frames for Detroit, which has won five of its last six games. The rally made a winner of Aquilino Lopez (2-0), who finished the seventh.

Magglio Ordonez doubled twice and drove in two runs, while Curtis Granderson double, tripled and scored a pair of runs. Placido Polanco added two hits and two RBI and two runs scored.

Dustin Moseley gave up three runs on six hits over five innings for the Angels, who had their winning streak halted at three games. Darren O'Day (0-1) allowed three runs -- one earned -- on four hits in two innings to absorb the loss.

Vladimir Guerrero was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Maicer Izturis knocked in two runs.

The Angels won five of their eight meetings with the Tigers a year ago and are 17-11 in the series since the start of the 2005 campaign. LA is also 7-6 in Motown in that time.
