(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Phillies are back home for six straight games, starting with the first of three consecutive meetings tonight with the San Diego Padres at Citizens Bank Park.
Philadelphia will also host the San Francisco Giants for three games in South Philly, and is 6-6 as the host this season. The Phillies completed a seven- game road trip with a 5-2 mark, but suffered a 5-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday in the finale of a three-game set at PNC Park.
Starter Brett Myers was reached for four runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out five and surrendering two home runs to Nate McLouth. Eric Bruntlett drove in the lone run for Philadelphia, which had a three-game win streak halted and lost for just the second time in eight tries.
The Phillies may get center fielder Shane Victorino back in the lineup on Tuesday. Victorino has been on the disabled list with a leg problem, and batted just under .400 during his stint through the minors on a rehab assignment. The return of Victorino would be a nice lift for Philly, which is 1 1/2 games off the top spot in the NL East.
Cole Hamels will try to pitch himself back into the win column when he toes the rubber tonight for the Phils. Hamels is 2-3 with a 2.75 ERA in five starts this season, and has lost back-to-back starts since a personal two-game winning streak.
Hamels was reached for five runs and eight hits over seven innings in a 5-4 loss at Milwaukee on April 23. He did manage to strike out a season-high 11 batters and issue just two walks in a losing effort.
The left-hander, who has lasted at least seven innings in each outing this season, is 0-1 with a 3.07 earned run average in three career appearances against the Padres.
San Diego will hit the road for nine games against Philadelphia, Florida and Atlanta, and is 4-7 away from Petco Park this season. The Padres have lost two straight and four of its last five games as the visitor.
The Padres have dropped six of seven overall and 10 of their last 12 games, including Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the final installment of a three-game series. Ace Jake Peavy yielded two runs on four hits and struck out nine batters in seven frames. Jim Edmonds drove in the only San Diego run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.
Greg Maddux will take the mound in South Philly on Tuesday, and is still in search of the 350th win of his career. Maddux, who is 2-1 with a 3.66 ERA in five starts in 2008, needs a win tonight to become only the ninth pitcher in major league history with 350 victories in a career.
Another win would also pull Maddux within four of Roger Clemens for eighth place on the all-time wins list.
Maddux is 0-1 in his last two starts after going 2-0 over the first three trips to the mound. On April 23 against San Francisco, Maddux did not record a decision after allowing four hits with five strikeouts and no walks over seven shutout innings of a 3-2 setback.
In 57 career appearances against the Phillies, the right-handed Maddux is 28-17 with six complete games and a 3.38 earned run average.
Philadelphia went 4-3 against San Diego in 2007, with a 1-2 mark at home.
