(Sports Network) - Colorado will shoot for back-to-back wins for the first time since the middle of the month, as the Rockies wrap up a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants this afternoon at AT&T Park.
Colorado posted a 3-2 win over San Francisco on Tuesday to halt a four-game slide. The Rockies won for just the second time in 10 games and haven't won consecutive tests since a four-game win streak from April 16-19.
The Rockies were forced into an odd infield configuration in yesterday's win, as shortstop Troy Tulowitzki suffered a quad strain in the first frame. Chris Iannetta entered the game to play third, Garrett Atkins moved from third to second and Clint Barmes shifted from second to short.
Iannetta's insertion to the lineup paid off, as he homered and scored the game-winning run in the seventh inning off a balk call on Giants starter Tim Lincecum.
Atkins had a hit to extend his hitting streak to 14 games, which is the longest current hitting streak in the majors. Atkins, who could start at second again today, is hitting .375 during his run with five homers and 15 RBI.
Aaron Cook (4-1) picked up the win after allowing two unearned runs on 10 hits in seven innings, while Brian Fuentes earned his second save. Matt Holliday went 2-for-4 and Willy Taveras scored the other Colorado run.
Aaron Rowand went 2-for-4 with a run batted in for the Giants, who won the opener 4-0 after four pitchers combined on an eight-hit shutout. Fred Lewis went 2-for-4, while Bengie Molina added an RBI double. Lincecum (4-1) dropped his first decision of the season after allowing three runs on eight hits in seven frames.
Jonathan Sanchez will try to win his third straight start when he starts today for the Giants. Sanchez was brilliant last time out, as he carried a two-hit shutout into the ninth inning and ended up allowing a run and four hits over eight innings of a 3-1 victory. The left-hander also fanned 10 batters for the second time this year, giving him 36 punchouts in 28 innings with a 3.54 earned run average.
Sanchez has faced the Rockies eight times, once as a starter, and has a 9.00 ERA against them without a decision. Atkins has two hits -- both doubles -- in five career at-bats versus Sanchez with three RBI, while Holliday is 0-for-4 against him.
Ubaldo Jimenez will try to rebound from a horrid outing last time out when he starts this afternoon for the Rockies. Jimenez lasted just 2 1/3 innings on Friday against the Dodgers, and allowed six runs on seven hits and three walks as he continues to struggle. Colorado's offense bailed out the right-hander in a no-decision, as Jimenez's ERA rose to 6.46 to go along with a 1-2 mark.
The 24-year-old will make his fourth straight road start today and just the second of his career versus the Giants. He faced them on September 5 of last season and took the loss after five innings of three-run ball.
Colorado is 21-17 versus San Francisco since the start of the 2006 season, but has dropped 12 of its last 22 versus the Giants at AT&T Park.
