Pittsburgh Pirates (10-16) at New York Mets (14-11), 1:10 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The New York Mets shoot for their fourth straight victory this afternoon, when they wrap up a rain-shortened series versus the Pittsburgh Pirates at Shea Stadium.

New York was scheduled to host Pittsburgh on Monday in the opener of a three- game set, but heavy rain in the Flushing area postponed the matchup. The contest was rescheduled for August 11 at 1:10 p.m.

The two teams eventually got the series started on Tuesday, with Mets star third baseman David Wright singling home the game-winning run in the 11th inning for a 5-4 triumph.

Wright finished with two RBI, while Ryan Church clubbed a two-run homer in the winning effort. Jose Reyes was 3-for-3 with three walks, a run scored and an RBI for the Mets, who have are a half-game off Florida's lead in the NL East. Endy Chavez had three hits and scored twice for New York.

Handling pitching duties for the Mets today will be left-hander Oliver Perez, who is 2-1 with a 3.62 ERA in five starts.

Perez suffered the loss in his previous outing Thursday at Washington, allowing five runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings of a 10-5 loss. He was 2-0 in his first four starts of the season before the recent setback.

The former Pirate has posted two no decisions at Shea Stadium this year and is 0-2 with a 5.14 earned run average through three career starts against Pittsburgh. Perez pitched for the Pirates from 2003-06 before being traded to the Mets.

Pittsburgh has lost four of five and 10 of its last 13 games, including Tuesday's extra-inning affair at Shea. Bucs starter Ian Snell allowed four runs on five hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings for the no decision, with reliever John Van Benschoten giving up a run on two hits in one-third of an inning to absorb the loss.

Nate McLouth and Jason Bay each hit solo home runs for Pittsburgh and Freddy Sanchez plated the tying run in the ninth with a base hit to force extra innings.

The Pirates are currently in the basement of the NL Central and will resume their road trip with a four-game series at Washington starting on Thursday.

McLouth has homered in three straight games and is batting .385 with four long balls over that span.

The Pirates will send Tom Gorzelanny to the mound on Wednesday, and he is 1-3 with an 8.46 ERA in five starts this season. He has dropped consecutive starts to the Cubs and Cardinals while toting an 11.73 earned run average over that span.

Gorzelanny allowed seven runs over 2 2/3 innings in a loss against Chicago on April 19, before giving up three runs in five innings of a setback versus St. Louis on Thursday.

The southpaw, who has dropped both of his road starts in 2008, is 0-2 with a 10.45 ERA in three career contests against the Mets.

New York went 4-2 against Pittsburgh last season, including a 2-1 mark at Shea Stadium. The Mets are 10-6 over the previous 16 matchups in this series.
