San Diego Padres (10-17) at Philadelphia Phillies (15-12), 7:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Phillies are set to close out a successful April for the first time in years as they resume a three-game series tonight versus the San Diego Padres at Citizens Bank Park.

April has been a month of horrors for the Phillies in the past, but now they will finish the season's first month with a record over .500 for the first time since the 2003 campaign. They stuck to their winning ways with a 7-4 victory over the Padres in the series opener on Tuesday, getting a strong performance from starting pitcher Cole Hamels.

Hamels allowed a pair of runs on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings. He has lasted at least seven innings in each of his six starts this season.

Carlos Ruiz scored twice and knocked in a pair of runs, while Jayson Werth, Eric Bruntlett and Pedro Feliz each had an RBI for the Phillies, who have won four of their last five contests and seven of nine. Philadelphia is just a half-game out of the top spot in the NL East and opened its six-game homestand versus San Diego and San Francisco on a winning note.

Jamie Moyer will handle the pitching assignment tonight for the Phillies and is 1-1 with a 4.05 ERA in five starts this season.

Moyer, who has more than 20 years experience in the majors, is winless over his previous three trips to the mound (0-1). He did not post a decision at Milwaukee on Thursday, when he yielded a run and eight hits in six innings of a 3-1 victory over the Brewers.

The left-hander, who owns an 0-1 mark in three home starts this year, is 6-6 with a 4.80 earned run average in 15 career outings against the Padres.

San Diego has dropped two straight, seven of eight and 11 of its last 13 games. It started a nine-game road trip with last night's loss in South Philly, with veteran starter Greg Maddux denied yet again a chance to earn his 350th career victory.

In three starts aiming for the milestone win, Maddux is 0-2 with a no decision. He had won his last two decisions against the Phils, but yielded three runs on eight hits and a walk over 6 1/3 innings on Tuesday night.

Scott Hairston went 3-for-4 with two home runs and a double for the Padres, who are last in the NL West standings. Tadahito Iguchi knocked in a run and Adrian Gonzalez finished 2-for-4 and scored once.

Toeing the rubber for the Padres tonight will be Chris Young, who is 1-2 with a 3.77 ERA in five starts this season.

Young is 0-2 with a 4.30 earned run average over his last four outings, and was saddled with the loss his last time out Thursday versus San Francisco. Young gave up a run and two hits in seven decent innings of a 1-0 setback.

The righty is 0-1 in two road starts this season, and owns a 1-1 record with a 1.46 earned run average in two career appearances against Philadelphia.

Philadelphia went 4-3 against San Diego in 2007, with a 1-2 mark at home.
