(Sports Network) - Randy Wolf returns to the city where he started his career as he leads the San Diego Padres against the Philadelphia Phillies tonight in the finale of a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park.
Wolf spent his first eight seasons in the major leagues with Philadelphia and was an All-Star in 2003. He underwent Tommy John surgery to repair ligament damage in his left arm two years later and struggled in 2006, his final season in the City of Brotherly Love. Wolf then signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers the following year, going 9-6 with a 4.73 ERA in 18 starts during 2007.
He has never faced the Phillies in his career.
The southpaw is 2-1 with a 3.68 ERA in five starts this season for San Diego, but had a personal two-game winning streak stopped his last time out Friday versus Arizona. He allowed five runs and seven hits in four innings -- all season lows for Wolf -- during a 5-1 setback.
San Diego won for just the third time in 14 games by posting a 4-2 victory over the Phillies on Wednesday behind six strong innings from starting pitcher Chris Young.
Young allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six batters. Relievers Joe Thatcher, Heath Bell and Trevor Hoffman each worked scoreless innings to keep the Phils' bats at bay, with Hoffman notching his fifth save of the season.
Adrian Gonzalez belted a two-run homer and Kevin Kouzmanoff added a solo blast for the Padres, who are 1-1 on a nine-game swing to Philadelphia, Florida and Atlanta.
The Phillies have lost two of their last three games but are 7-3 over their last 10 contests and 1-1 on a six-game homestand versus the Padres and Giants.
Chase Utley belted a two-run homer and Geoff Jenkins finished 3-for-4 for Philadelphia, which concluded its first winning April since the 2003 campaign. Starter Jamie Moyer took the loss after surrendering four runs on nine hits and a walk over 5 1/3 innings. The veteran southpaw is winless in his past four trips to the mound.
Phillies fifth starter Adam Eaton is still in search of his first victory of the season and will take the hill tonight.
Eaton is 0-0 with a 5.08 earned run average in five starts this season. He has recorded five straight no decisions with the Phillies, going 3-2 over that span. In his last outing Friday at Pittsburgh, Eaton pitched a season-low 3 2/3 innings and gave up three runs and five hits in a 6-5 victory at PNC Park.
The right-hander faced the Padres just once in his career -- on July 20 of last season -- and recorded a victory. Eaton allowed two runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings of a 7-3 triumph at Petco Park.
Philadelphia went 4-3 against San Diego in 2007, with a 1-2 mark at home.
