Baltimore Orioles (16-16) at Oakland Athletics (20-14), 10:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - One night after engaging in an extra-inning pitcher's duel, the Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles resume a three-game series this evening at McAfee Coliseum.

Oakland prevailed in last night's opener by a 2-1 count, with Emil Brown's two-out single in the bottom of the 10th inning bringing in Daric Barton with the game-winning run.

Brown finished 3-for-4 for the Athletics, who have won two in a row following a stretch of four losses in five games. Rajai Davis knocked in Oakland's other run with an infield single in the seventh inning.

Baltimore sent the contest into extra frames with a run off A's closer Huston Street in the top of the ninth. Melvin Mora led off the inning with a double, took third on a fly ball off the bat of Kevin Millar, and crossed the plate on Ramon Hernandez's ground out.

Street's blown save spoiled a potential victory for starter Dana Eveland, who spun seven shutout innings and held the Orioles to three hits while recording four strikeouts.

Garret Olson was sharp as well for Baltimore, as the young left-hander yielded just one run and four hits over 6 1/3 innings of work. He also finished with a career-best seven strikeouts.

The Orioles have now lost three of their first four tests of a 10-game road trip and will try to even this set behind the surprising Brian Burres. The left-hander has been a bright spot for Baltimore in the early going, having allowed one run or less in three of his five season starts and bringing a solid 2.87 earned run average into tonight's matchup.

Burres struck out a season-best six batters over six innings in his last mound trip, a 4-2 home defeat to Tampa Bay, but surrendered four runs (3 earned) in that game to suffer the loss. He had won back-to-back starts prior to that outing.

The 27-year-old delivered a gem in his only previous start against Oakland, back on May 26 of last season. Burres held the A's to one run and three hits through six innings to lead the Orioles to an 8-3 triumph at Camden Yards in that appearance. He also tossed three scoreless frames in a relief stint versus the Athletics last year.

Justin Duchscherer gets the assignment for Oakland tonight and will make his third start after a three-week stint on the disabled list because of a strained biceps.

Duchscherer fired five innings of two-run ball at Seattle on April 26, although he wound up taking the loss in a 5-3 Oakland setback. He then allowed six runs in five innings against the Angels on Thursday, but only one of them was earned and Duchscherer was rewarded with a victory in a 15-8 decision by the A's.

The converted reliever owns a 1-0 record with one save and a 2.87 ERA over eight lifetime appearances versus Baltimore, including one start. Duchscherer's major-league debut came against the Orioles in a starting role on July 25, 2001.

The A's and Orioles split eight 2007 encounters, with Baltimore winning twice during a three-game series at McAfee Coliseum last July. The O's are 6-4 in Oakland since the start of the 2005 season.
