Tampa Bay Rays (16-15) at Toronto Blue Jays (16-17), 7:07 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Rays try to bounce back from a rough visit to Boston over the weekend when they open a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

After starting their nine-game road trip by taking two of three in Baltimore, the surprising Rays came back to earth a little over the weekend in Boston, as the Red Sox took all three games from them, outscoring Tampa 26-10 in the process.

Boston spoiled the much anticipated season debut of Scott Kazmir (0-1) on Sunday, as the left-hander was roughed up for four runs and six hits in four innings of his team's 7-3 loss.

Carlos Pena homered, while Akinori Iwamura had two hits, an RBI and scored a run for the Rays, whose slide comes on the heels of eight wins in nine games.

Andy Sonnanstine will try and get the Rays back on track tonight, as he tries to win his fourth straight start. Sonnanstine was brilliant against the Orioles on Wednesday at Camden Yards, surrendering just a run and six hits in eight innings to run his record to 4-1 on the season, while lowering his earned run average to 4.42.

Sonnanstine defeated the Jays two starts ago and is 1-1 lifetime against them with a 6.12 ERA in four starts.

Toronto will counter with right-hander A.J. Burnett, who is coming off a magnificent effort against the Red Sox in his last trip to the hill. Burnett scattered three hits over 7 2/3 scoreless innings on Thursday, as he improved to 3-2 on the year to go along with a 4.82 ERA.

Burnett has faced the Rays 13 times and is 6-2 against them with a 2.95 ERA.

Toronto continued its run of outstanding starting pitching over the weekend, as it completed a rare four-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox, culminating with a 1-0 win on Monday. Dustin McGowan hurled 7 1/3 shutout innings, and Matt Stairs hit his fourth home run of the year for the game's lone run.

McGowan (2-2) allowed just four hits while striking out six and walking none, and B.J. Ryan worked around three walks in the ninth for his fifth save.

Over its last nine games, Toronto has allowed two or fewer runs eight times and has lowered its staff ERA to 3.27, the second-best mark in the majors. Blue Jays' starters have thrown at least 6 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs or fewer.

Shannon Stewart went 3-for-4 with a triple, while Vernon Wells and Aaron Hill each doubled for Toronto, which has won five in a row. With a win today the Jays would have their first six-game winning streak since May 4-10, 2004.

Tampa swept a three-game set from the Jays from April 22-24 and has won four straight and six of eight in the series.
