(Sports Network) - The Florida Marlins will try to extend their season high winning streak to seven games today, when they wrap up a three-game series against Washington at Nationals Park.
The Marlins kept the streak intact with Saturday's 11-0 pounding of the Nationals, as Dan Uggla hit his first career grand slam and drove in five runs to lead the attack.
Cody Ross homered and scored three times for the Marlins. Wes Helms belted a solo shot, while Jeremy Hermida knocked in a pair of runs. Hanley Ramirez went 1-for-2, walked twice and scored two runs in a winning effort.
Andrew Miller hurled seven shutout innings and held the Nats to just two hits, tying a career high with seven strikeouts while issuing just one walk.
The last time Marlins starter Scott Olsen took the hill he was one out away from the first complete game of his career. Olsen, who is 4-1 with a 2.22 ERA in seven starts this season, pitched 8 2/3 shutout innings of two-hit ball in a 3-0 victory over Milwaukee on May 6.
Olsen, a left-hander, is 2-0 in two starts against Washington this season. He is 5-3 with a 3.88 earned run average in 10 career appearances in this series.
Nationals starting pitcher Michael O'Connor was bombarded yesterday for nine runs on six hits and six walks in 3 1/3 innings for the loss. Felipe Lopez went 2-for-4 as Washington lost for the fourth time in five games. Ryan Zimmerman had the only other hit for the Nats.
The Nationals will send Shawn Hill to the mound today, and he is 0-0 with a 3.86 earned run average through four starts in 2008.
Hill has yet to factor in the outcome of any of his starts this season, having posted four straight no decisions. On May 6 at Houston, Hill yielded three runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 frames of a 6-5 loss.
He faced the Marlins earlier this season on April 19 at Dolphin Stadium, allowing four runs and eight hits through five innings of work. The righty is 2-1 with a 3.24 ERA in six career starts against Florida.
The Marlins, who are two games ahead of Philadelphia in the NL East, are 7-1 so far against the Nationals this season, with a 5-0 record at Nationals Park.
