(Sports Network) - Philadelphia Phillies starter Adam Eaton can only hope he receives the same kind of run support his fellow pitchers have been getting when he toes the rubber tonight in the finale of a three-game series versus the Colorado Rockies at Citizens Bank Park.
Philadelphia started its scoring barrage with a 15-6 rout of Houston in Sunday's finale of a four-game series at Minute Maid Park. It then opened this series with an impressive 20-5 drubbing of Colorado, fueled by a 19-hit attack, before simmering down to a 7-4 triumph last night. Relief pitcher Rudy Seanez and starters Jamie Moyer and Kyle Kendrick have all benefited from the offensive outburst.
The most runs the Phillies have scored when Eaton has taken the hill this season is six. They recorded a 6-5 victory at Pittsburgh on April 25, although Eaton still didn't even factor in the decision after giving up three runs in 3 2/3 innings of work.
The 2008 season hasn't been too kind for Eaton, who is 0-3 with a 5.37 earned run average in 10 starts.
Eaton has lost three of his last four outings, including last Friday's performance at Houston. He was reached for three runs and eight hits in seven innings of a 4-3 setback.
The right-hander has faced Colorado 25 times throughout his career and owns an 8-12 record with a 6.32 earned run average against the Rockies.
Philadelphia has won three straight and six of eight to pull within 1 1/2 games of Florida for the top spot in the NL East standings. In Tuesday's 7-4 triumph in South Philly, Kendrick took advantage of the run support and got the win after being charged with just two runs on seven hits in 7 1/3 innings of work.
Greg Dobbs and Pedro Feliz each had a pair of RBI, while Jimmy Rollins had two hits and scored twice for the Phils, whose 42 runs over the past three contests are just two off the club record that was set in 1900. Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Geoff Jenkins each had an RBI and a run scored in a winning cause.
The Phillies are unbeaten so far on their 10-game homestand versus the Rockies, Marlins and Reds.
Ryan Spilborghs highlighted the Colorado offense with a two-run homer for the defending NL champion Rockies, who have dropped five of their last seven games. Starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez was saddled with the loss after he gave up all seven runs on 10 hits in four innings of work.
Colorado, which has dropped seven in a row on the road, is winless on a 10- game swing through Philadelphia, Chicago and Los Angeles.
Rookie starter Greg Reynolds gets the nod for Rockies manager Clint Hurdle tonight, and he is 0-1 with a 4.08 ERA in three starts this season.
Reynolds has posted back-to-back no decisions since losing his major league debut on May 11 at San Diego. He last took the hill on Friday versus the New York Mets, allowing four runs and four hits in six frames of a 6-5 victory. Colorado is 2-1 when Reynolds toes the rubber in 2008.
The young righty, a Stanford product, has never faced the Phillies.
These two teams met at Coors Field on April 21-22 of this season, with the Phillies sweeping a two-game series. Philadelphia is 15-9 in the last 24 regular-season meetings with the Rockies.
