New York Yankees (25-27) at Baltimore Orioles (26-25), 7:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - If one thing is certain in Andy Pettitte's career, it is that he loves to pitch against the Orioles. He'll try for yet another victory over them tonight when the New York Yankees attempt to avoid getting swept by Baltimore in the finale of a three-game set at Camden Yards.

Pettitte is 23-6 with a 3.77 earned run average in 35 games (33 starts) versus the Orioles, by far the most wins against any one club in his career. In 21 career tests at Camden Yards -- including 20 starts -- Pettitte is 14-4 with a 4.50 ERA.

The left-hander's numbers include a road win over Baltimore on April 20. Pettitte was sharp that day, tossing seven shutout innings while allowing just four hits and striking out five.

That victory was Pettitte's third in a row, but he went 0-4 over his next five outings before defeating Seattle on Friday. Pettitte held the Mariners to just a pair of runs over six innings, giving up eight hits and fanning a season- high nine batters. He is now 4-5 on the season with a 4.27 ERA.

Pettitte will be trying to keep the Orioles from posting their first three- game sweep of the Yankees since April 15-17, 2005, also at Camden Yards.

It will be interesting to see just how long Pettitte pitches today. The Yankees are hoping to get Joba Chamberlain into tonight's game and have him throw about 50-55 pitches in an effort to get him ready to transition from the bullpen to the rotation. However, should Pettitte pitch well it is likely Chamberlain won't get into the game.

New York might even be feeling more pressure to get the right-handed Chamberlain ready due to yesterday's injury to Ian Kennedy. Kennedy started Tuesday's 10-9 extra-inning loss but lasted just three innings before leaving with a strained right lat muscle, an ailment that will land him on the disabled list.

Following a rain delay that lasted just over an hour, the Yankees went ahead by a run in the 11th inning on Hideki Matsui's run-scoring single to center with two outs. However, LaTroy Hawkins (1-1) failed to hold that lead, yielding Aubrey Huff's game-tying double that scored Melvin Mora before Alex Cintron later ended things with an RBI single to right center.

Kevin Millar was 3-for-5 with two home runs, totaling three runs batted in for the Orioles, who have won two in a row after a five-game skid. Mora finished 3-for-6 with a two-run homer, while Ramon Hernandez went 3-for-5 with a solo home run.

Johnny Damon went 4-for-5 with a three-run homer for the Yankees, who have dropped two in a row on the heels of a five-game win streak. Jason Giambi and Alex Rodriguez both hit solo homers in defeat. Bobby Abreu went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run.

The Orioles will attempt to give Jeremy Guthrie some run support when he toes the rubber tonight. Guthrie has allowed just one run in each of his last two outings, but got a loss in both of them. Against Washington on May 18, the right-hander lasted seven innings in a 2-1 setback, and then yielded four hits in addition to his run in 6 2/3 frames versus Tampa Bay on Friday. However, Baltimore was shutout 2-0.

Guthrie is 2-5 despite a 3.62 ERA this season, and is 1-0 in four games lifetime against New York, including three starts. He defeated them on July 27 of 2007, yielding two runs on six hits over six innings.

The Orioles have won five of eight against the Yankees this season after the clubs split 18 meetings a year ago.
