Detroit Tigers (23-31) at Seattle Mariners (20-35), 3:55 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers aim for their third straight victory as they take on the last place Seattle Mariners today in the second of three weekend contests from Safeco Field.

On Friday, Curtis Granderson went 3-for-5 with a run batted in and a run scored as the Tigers jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 7-4 victory over the Mariners in the opener of this series.

Brandon Inge drove in a pair of runs while Edgar Renteria had a pair of hits and scored for the Tigers, who have won two straight after dropping their previous three. Nate Robertson (3-5) gave up four runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings to pick up the win.

Adrian Beltre hit a pair of solo home runs for the Mariners, who had a two- game winning streak stopped. Carlos Silva (3-5) started on the mound, but only got two outs and was charged with all seven Detroit runs.

The Tigers jumped all over Silva in the first inning and chased him from the game with seven hits.

Beltre now has 17 multi-home run games in his career.

It is hard to believe that Justin Verlander is 2-7 with a 5.16 ERA, especially considering that the Detroit righty was clearly the ace of his staff a year ago. Verlander only allowed one earned run in seven innings against Minnesota on Sunday, but he did not figure in the decision.

There is good news for Verlander heading into today's game, as he is 5-0 with a 2.43 ERA lifetime against Seattle, including 1-0 this season.

Felix Hernandez is slated to oppose Verlander, and the Seattle standout is 2-5 this season despite a 3.60 ERA. On Monday, the Red Sox beat Hernandez by touching him up for five earned runs on seven hits in 7 2/3 innings of actions.

The young righty is 1-3 with a 4.08 ERA at home, a particularly troubling stat.

In his career against Detroit, Hernandez is 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA.

Detroit has won all four games against Seattle this season and seven of the last matchups in this series.
