Detroit Tigers (23-32) at Seattle Mariners (21-35), 4:10 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners are set to collide in the rubber match of a three-game weekend series this afternoon at Safeco Field.

Kenji Johjima finished 2-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in and a steal of home plate as the Mariners defeated the Detroit Tigers, 5-0, on Saturday to even this set. Johjima's steal of home was the first by a Mariner since Raul Ibanez on September 12, 2005.

Jeremy Reed added a solo home run and Ichiro Suzuki knocked in a run for the Mariners, who have won three of four after a seven-game losing streak.

Felix Hernandez (3-5) was magnificent in earning the win. The right-hander allowed only two hits while striking out seven with no walks over seven innings.

Carlos Guillen and Magglio Ordonez each singled for the Tigers' only hits. Detroit has lost five of its last eight and has been held scoreless over the last 17 innings of this series.

Justin Verlander (2-8) was tagged with the loss after giving up four runs on eight hits over seven frames. He struck out one and walked a pair.

Detroit manager Jim Leyland was ejected in the top of the sixth inning by first base umpire Dan Iassogna for arguing a close play when Tigers outfielder Curtis Granderson was called out on a ground ball.

Jeremy Bonderman is expected to be on the mound for Detroit today as he attempts to improve on his 3-4 record and 4.34 ERA. Bonderman has issued 36 walks in 64 1/3 innings of work, so control has been a concern. On a positive note, he is unbeaten over his last three outings with a 3.26 ERA.

Bonderman has already beaten the Mariners once this season and is 5-3 lifetime against Seattle.

Mariners scheduled starter Miguel Batista is 3-6 with a 5.98 ERA this season with a 5.98 ERA, and Seattle hopes he can restore some lost confidence when he takes the hill today. Batista has handed out 34 walks to go along with 70 hits allowed in 55 2/3 innings, concerning numbers to say the least.

In six career games against Detroit, Batista is 1-4 with a 5.12 ERA.

Detroit had won the first four clashes between these teams this season prior to Saturday's loss, only the Tigers' second in their last nine games against Seattle.
