(Sports Network) - The front office's confidence in Mets manager Willie Randolph has carried onto the field. New York tries to win its third straight series this afternoon when it concludes a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.

The Mets' season started to hit a low point on May 25 when the club lost to the Rockies, giving it six losses in seven games. Randolph was still given a vote of confidence by management the following day, but New York lost to the Marlins shortly after.

However, New York rebounded to win two straight against Florida, took three of four versus the Dodgers, and after dropping this series' opener posted a 9-6 win on Tuesday.

Pedro Martinez (1-0) threw six innings in his long-awaited return from the disabled list, scattering seven hits while allowing three runs. He also singled twice and even drove in a run. Martinez (1-0) suffered a left hamstring strain in his first start of the season, April 1 at Florida.

Martinez's RBI came during New York's eight-run fifth inning, a frame that was capped by Damion Easley's three-run double. Easley ended with three hits.

Jose Reyes went 0-for-5 to end his 18-game hitting streak, but he extend his run of reaching base to 34 straight games courtesy of a pair of errors. It is the longest run in club history by a leadoff hitter, passing Darryl Strawberry's record of 33 games in row from April 25-June 1, 1987.

Travis Denker clubbed a three-run homer in the ninth inning for the Giants to make it a three-run game. It was Denker's first career long ball. Fred Lewis had two hits and scored three times for San Francisco, which had a two-game win streak ended. Randy Winn drove in two runs.

Barry Zito (1-9) was battered for seven hits and six runs -- five earned -- over 4 1/3 innings. The lefty walked five batters.

Matt Cain goes for the Giants today and has posted three straight no- decisions, all San Francisco losses, while pitching to a 4.95 earned run average in that span. Against San Diego on Friday, the righty gave up three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts over seven frames.

The 23-year-old hasn't won since May 13 and is 2-3 with a 4.38 ERA this year. Cain is 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA in four career starts versus the Mets, with both setbacks coming last year.

Reyes is 6-for-12 (.500) in his career versus Cain with a double, two triples and three RBI, while David Wright is 7-for-13 (.538) with five doubles and three RBI against him. Carlos Delgado, who scored a run and had an RBI yesterday, is hitless in 14 at-bats versus Cain with four strikeouts.

The Mets send John Maine to the hill and he is 5-4 with a 3.66 ERA this year. Maine got a no-decision in his last start, allowing four runs and five hits against the Dodgers on Friday over six innings. The right-hander is now 0-2 over his last three starts with a 6.19 ERA.

The 27-year-old Maine has faced the Giants just once, giving up three runs on five hits and six walks over six frames of an outing at AT&T Park on May 9 of last year. He didn't get a decision in that one.

The Mets won four of six against the Giants last year, going 2-1 at AT&T Park.
