Chicago White Sox (37-26) at Detroit Tigers (26-37), 7:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Chicago White Sox take their highly successful act to the road tonight, where the American League Central leaders start up a three- game series with the division-rival Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.

Chicago completed a perfect seven-game homestand with Monday's 7-5 comeback victory over Minnesota, which extended the White Sox' lead over the second- place Twins to a comfortable 6 1/2 games.

The White Sox overcame an early 5-2 deficit by scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth inning and three more times in the seventh, with Paul Konerko's two- run homer capping the rally and accounting for the winning margin.

Nick Swisher belted a pair of home runs and finished 2-for-2 with three RBI for Chicago, while Orlando Cabrera contributed four hits and a run scored to the winning effort.

Matt Thornton (2-1) recorded the win with a scoreless inning in relief of a shaky John Danks, who was touched for five runs (4 earned) on eight hits while walking three over six innings. Bobby Jenks picked up his 15th save after shutting the Twins out in the ninth.

Chicago outscored Minnesota by a lopsided 40-15 margin and earned its first four-game sweep of the Twins since July 1-3, 1977.

Jose Contreras has been a big part of the White Sox' resurgence and will attempt to lengthen a long personal unbeaten streak in tonight's opener.

Contreras won his fourth straight decision after limiting Kansas City to one run and four hits over seven innings last Thursday. The veteran right-hander is 4-0 with a spectacular 1.50 earned run average over his last six starts, and hasn't yielded more than two runs in any of those outings.

The Cuban defector did suffer a loss to the Tigers earlier this season, however. On April 11 in Chicago, Contreras surrendered four runs over 6 2/3 innings in a 5-2 setback to Detroit. He also gave up five runs (4 earned) and a season-high 10 hits in a five-inning no-decision at Comerica Park on April 4.

For his career, Contreras is 8-7 with a 4.49 ERA in 21 career starts against the Tigers.

The inconsistent Nate Robertson will take the mound for Detroit this evening. After posting back-to-back wins over Minnesota and Seattle from May 24-30, the gritty left-hander was dealt a loss at Oakland last Wednesday after being tagged for five runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings of work.

That rough start raised Robertson's season ERA to 6.03, and he's permitted four runs or more in all but two of his 12 starts in 2008.

Robertson is 5-6 with a 5.07 ERA over 17 career starts against Chicago and matched up against Contreras in Detroit back on April 4. He also received a no-decision in that game after allowing five runs in five innings.

The Tigers will be counting on a longer stint out of Robertson than Dontrelle Willis provided on Monday. The excitable southpaw lasted just 1 1/3 innings and was rocked for eight runs in Detroit's 8-2 home loss to Cleveland.

Willis issued five walks and gave up three hits, including a three-run homer to Ryan Garko and a two-run shot to Kelly Shoppach, before exiting.

Placido Polanco led the Tigers offensively by going 4-for-5 with an RBI double. Detroit wound up with a split of its four-game set with the Indians and has lost five of its last seven overall.

Chicago is an outstanding 21-8 against AL Central foes this season and has won five of six encounters with the Tigers so far this year. The White Sox swept a three-game series at Comerica Park from April 4-6.

Since 2005, the White Sox have compiled an impressive 22-9 record in Detroit.
