Arizona Diamondbacks (35-31) at New York Mets (31-33), 1:10 p.m.

(Sports Network) - A pair of ex-American League aces square off for the second time this season when the Arizona Diamondbacks visit Shea Stadium to close out a three-game midweek series with the New York Mets.

Neither Arizona's Dan Haren nor New York's Johan Santana figured in the decision on May 4 in Phoenix, where the visiting Mets scored three times in the ninth inning to earn a 5-2 road triumph.

Haren, a 15-game winner with the Oakland Athletics last season, allowed three hits and two runs with seven strikeouts over six innings, while Santana - who won 15 times with Minnesota in 2007 - gave up six hits and a run while striking out eight in his own six-inning stint.

Haren is 2-3 with a no-decision in six starts since, scoring his last victory on June 1, when he allowed four hits over seven scoreless innings of Arizona's 5-0 win.

He's made three career appearances against the Mets, including two starts, and has allowed 10 hits and five runs in 15 2/3 innings while striking out 17 and walking four.

Santana, meanwhile, is 2-0 in three lifetime starts against the Diamondbacks, allowing just two runs on 12 hits in 22 innings, with five walks and 24 strikeouts.

He's won four of six decisions since last facing Arizona, but was beaten, 2-1, at San Diego in his last outing on June 6.

On Wednesday, Carlos Beltran belted a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the 13th inning, lifting the Mets a 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Mike Pelfrey was brilliant on the mound, tossing a career-high eight-plus innings. The former 2005 first-round draft choice -- ninth overall -- allowed one run on five hits with a career-high eight strikeouts against just two walks.

Billy Wagner came on in the ninth and gave up a three-run homer to Mark Reynolds, which tied the game. Claudio Vargas (3-2) tossed the final inning to pick up the win.

Beltran added a two-run single for the Mets, who snapped a season-high-tying five-game losing streak. Luis Castillo scored twice and Marlon Anderson knocked in the other New York run.

Arizona starter Brandon Webb went five innings and gave up three runs on five hits while fanning four. Edgar Gonzalez (1-3) yielded two unearned runs in 1 2/3 innings and was saddled with the loss.

Orlando Hudson finished 3-for-6 for the Diamondbacks, who have dropped three of their last four games. Reynolds' blast was his 15th of the season. He struck out in his other four plate appearances. Conor Jackson and Stephen Drew each had two hits.

The Mets took two of three from the D'Backs earlier in the season in Arizona.
