Baltimore Orioles (32-32) at Boston Red Sox (41-27), 6:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - A winning record on Boston's current homestand is no surprise. Armed with the best home record in the major leagues, the Red Sox wrap a nine-game residency tonight with the finale of a three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.

Boston is 6-2 on its stand and has lost just twice in its last 18 home games. One of those setbacks came in Tuesday's series opener with the Orioles, but the Red Sox responded with a 6-3 victory on Wednesday.

The Red Sox set the tone by plating five runs in the first inning, capped by Jason Varitek's three-run homer with two outs. Mike Lowell also homered and scored twice, while J.D. Drew drove in a run with a first-inning double that extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Manny Ramirez had homered in his last four tests against the Orioles, but saw that run end as he went 1-for-3 on Wednesday. He did extend his hitting streak to 15 games while helping Boston win its third game in its last four tests.

Drew is hitting .500 (16-for-32) over his run with five homers, 13 RBI and four doubles, while Ramirez is batting at a .386 clip (22-for-57) with seven homers and 20 RBI during his streak.

Luke Scott collected two hits, including a solo homer in the fifth inning, and Kevin Millar doubled in a run for the Orioles, who have dropped two of three and are 5-3 on their nine-game road trip that wraps tonight.

Also playing well on Baltimore's trek is Nick Markakis. Markakis went 1-for-3 yesterday and is hitting .485 (16-for-33) with a homer and five RBI on the swing. He has three hits in five at-bats this year against tonight's starter for Boston, Jon Lester, and is a career .385 hitter (5-for-13) off him.

Lester pitched very well in his last outing, a brawl-filled test versus Tampa Bay last Thursday. Amongst the shenanigans that included a fight between Boston's Coco Crisp and Rays' hurler James Shields, as well as a dugout scuffle between Ramirez and Kevin Youkilis, Lester yielded just a run and eight hits over 6 1/3 innings. He also struck out five in his first home start since no-hitting Kansas City on May 19.

Lester is 4-3 with a 3.50 earned run average on the year and has a 2.54 ERA in seven home starts in 2008. The left-hander entered this season 3-0 in three career starts against the Orioles, but has received a pair of no-decisions against them this year.

Jeremy Guthrie starts for the O's and is 1-3 over his last five starts despite a 2.12 ERA. During a three-start losing streak from May 18-28, Baltimore scored a total of just three runs in his outings.

After a no-decision versus Boston on June 2, in which he allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings, the righty beat Toronto on Saturday behind seven innings of one- run ball.

Guthrie is 3-6 with a 3.40 ERA this year and defeated Boston on May 13. In six career outings, including five starts, against the Red Sox, he is 1-0 with a 2.73 ERA.

Ramirez hit a solo homer off of Guthrie in that June 2 meeting and has five hits in 12 career at-bats (.417) against him.

These two clubs have split eight meetings this year, though the Orioles have just five wins in their last 21 games at Fenway Park.
