(Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers will attempt to break even on their six-game road trip this afternoon with the finale of a three-game series against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.
The Brewers are 2-3 so far on the trek and posted a 10-6 victory Wednesday night to push their road mark to 15-21 this season. Corey Hart swung a hot bat at the plate with a pair of two-run homers and three hits in a home run-laden contest. Russell Branyan, Mike Cameron and Jason Kendall also went deep in the winning cause for Milwaukee, which won for the 11th time in 15 games. The five home runs were a season high.
Starting pitcher Manny Parra earned the win thanks to the run support, as he gave up five runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. The Brewers will return to Miller Park for a nine-game homestand versus Minnesota, Toronto and Baltimore after tonight's series finale.
Milwaukee hopes that starter Ben Sheets can keep his unbeaten streak intact when the lanky Northeast Louisiana product takes the hill on Thursday. Sheets is 2-0 with a 1.52 earned run average over his last four starts, but did not record a decision the last time out on June 6 at Colorado. Sheets yielded one run and five hits over six innings as the Brewers suffered a 6-4 setback.
The right-hander is 1-0 in two starts against Houston this season, having beaten the division-rival Astros on May 31 at Miller Park. He hurled 8 2/3 innings of one-run ball that day in a 4-1 victory. Sheets is 11-8 with a 3.71 earned run average through 26 career appearances against Houston. He hasn't fared too well against Astros slugger Lance Berkman, who is batting .349 with five homers against the big hurler.
Houston has lost three of four and 10 of its last 13 games. It is 2-3 so far on a nine-game homestand versus the Cardinals, Brewers and Yankees. Miguel Tejada, Carlos Lee and Ty Wigginton each hit homers, while Brad Ausmus doubled and drove in two runs for the Astros.
Brandon Backe started for the 'Stros and suffered the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits in just four innings of work. Houston is now 17-12 at Minute Maid Park this season.
Getting the call for the Astros today will be Brian Moehler, who is 3-2 with a 3.76 earned run average in 11 games (six starts) this season. Moehler has alternated wins and losses over his last five decisions, recording a win over St. Louis on June 6.
In a 6-1 victory over the Cardinals, Moehler limited the opposition to just a pair of hits through seven shutout innings. He faced Milwaukee this season on May 31 at Miller Park and was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs and five hits in five frames of a 4-1 setback.
The right-handed UNC-Greensboro product is just 3-7 with a 4.31 earned run average through 18 career games (nine starts) against Milwaukee.
Houston and Milwaukee have split eight meetings so far this season. The Brewers were swept in three games at Minute Maid Park from May 2-4.
