Detroit Tigers (32-38) at San Francisco Giants (31-40), 10:15 p.m.

(Sports Network) - After rallying for a much-needed victory on Monday, the San Francisco Giants hope to carry their newfound momentum into tonight's interleague matchup with the Detroit Tigers at AT&T Park.

The Giants halted a three-game losing streak and finally earned their first win over an American League team this season with last night's 8-6 comeback triumph. San Francisco scored five times in the bottom of the eighth inning and moved ahead to stay on a three-run homer by John Bowker.

Randy Winn and Aaron Rowand both singled off Tigers reliever Freddy Dolsi (0-2) in the eighth before Bowker greeted Fernando Rodney with a blast into the right-field seats to give the Giants a 6-4 lead. Fred Lewis extended the margin with a two-run double later in the frame.

Rodney was appearing in his first game of the season. The right-hander had been sidelined since spring training with a shoulder injury.

Lewis added a solo homer for San Francisco, which had been 0-6 in interleague play this season prior to Monday's win. The Giants were swept in a three-game set at home by Oakland over the weekend and also lost three meetings with the Chicago White Sox back in May.

Marcus Thames blasted two home runs for the Tigers, who had a six-game win streak come to an end. Ivan Rodriguez went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in a losing cause, while teammate Curtis Granderson came through with a two-RBI single in the ninth inning.

Thames has now homered in four consecutive games and has six long balls and 10 RBI over his last six contests.

Detroit starter Justin Verlander was in line for the win after holding the Giants to three runs -- two earned -- and striking out seven over the first six innings.

The Tigers aim for a rebound tonight behind hard-luck starter Kenny Rogers, who has delivered four straight outstanding outings but doesn't have a win to show for those efforts.

Rogers has worked at least seven innings and surrendered just three earned runs over his winless stretch, in which he received a no-decision each time out. The crafty veteran was especially good Thursday against the Chicago White Sox, with Rogers yielding just one unearned run and four hits over a season- high eight frames.

The 43-year-old will be facing San Francisco for the first time since 2001, when he was a member of the Texas Rangers. Rogers is 2-1 with a 6.57 earned run average in six lifetime starts against the Giants.

Giants southpaw Jonathan Sanchez puts a four-start win streak on the line tonight in the youngster's first career start versus Detroit.

Sanchez, who hasn't lost since May 16, benefited from an offensive eruption by San Francisco in Thursday's 10-7 victory over Colorado at Coors Field. The hard-throwing lefty was touched for seven runs and nine hits over five innings, Sanchez's shortest start since a May 11 appearance against Philadelphia in which he lasted just 4 1/3 frames.

Prior to Thursday's game, Sanchez had allowed two or less runs in five straight mound trips, including a June 7 win at Washington in which he fired seven shutout innings.

The 25-year-old has been tough at AT&T Park this season, bringing a 2-1 record and a 2.74 ERA over seven home starts into tonight's test.

The Giants are 5-2 all-time against the Tigers and swept a three-game series from Detroit at AT&T Park from June 6-8, 2003.
