(Sports Network) - The Seattle Mariners are set to play their second game under the guidance of new manager Jim Riggleman when they resume a three-game interleague set tonight with the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field.
On Friday, Jose Lopez finished with four runs batted in to help Riggleman win his managerial debut with Seattle as the Mariners romped, 10-2.
Riggleman replaced the fired John McLaren on Thursday, with McLaren's tenure as Seattle manager ending after less than a year. Seattle currently holds the worst record in the majors at 26-47 and is 17 1/2 games back of the first- place Angels in the American League West.
Earlier in the week, Seattle also replaced its general manager as Bill Bavasi was let go and Lee Pelekoudas was named the interim general manager.
Lopez finished the game 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored while Adrian Beltre went 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Mariners, who had dropped five of six coming into the game.
Erik Bedard started on the mound for Seattle, but left after just three innings with back spasms in his right side. He gave up just two hits with a strikeout and also had a base hit in his first at-bat of the season. Ryan Rowland-Smith (1-1) got the win for pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
Omar Infante went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Kelly Johnson drove in the other run for the Braves, who have dropped four of their last six games.
Jorge Campillo (2-2) got the loss as he was tagged for four runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings of work.
The Braves will turn to Jair Jurrjens to get them back on track. The rookie right-hander has won two straight starts and is 3-0 with a 3.89 ERA in his past six outings.
Jurrjens is coming off one of his best outings of the season, tossing 7 2/3 scoreless innings in a 7-1 win over the Colorado Rockies on Monday. He allowed eight hits while striking out seven batters.
At home this season, Jurrjens has been especially tough, posting a perfect 5-0 mark with a 2.85 ERA in seven starts.
Jarrod Washburn counters for the Mariners and he is in search of his first win since defeating the Texas Rangers on May 5th. The left-hander is 0-3 with a 7.11 ERA in his last seven appearances.
In his last start, Washburn yielded two earned runs and eight hits over six innings of an eventual 6-2 loss to the Washington Nationals. He did not receive a decision.
Washburn has never faced the Braves in his major league career.
Atlanta is hosting Seattle in the regular season for the first time in club history. These clubs had met just once prior, with the Mariners taking two of three over the Braves at Safeco Field from June 13-15, 2003.
