Detroit Tigers (35-39) at San Diego Padres (32-44), 4:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - If the Detroit Tigers are going to make a run in the AL Central they need Justin Verlander to get on track. Today, the right-hander toes the hill when the Tigers complete their three-game interleague series with the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.

Verlander has been one of the biggest disappointments in the league this season, posting a 3-9 mark with a 4.55 earned run average. He received a no- decision on Monday against the San Francisco Giants, as he allowed three runs (two earned) and five hits

The 25-year-old hurler, who has never faced the Padres, has been atrocious away from home this season, going 0-5 with a 5.35 ERA in his six road starts.

San Diego will counter with veteran Randy Wolf, who was battered by the New York Yankees in his last trip to the hill. Wolf surrendered seven runs (five earned) and six hits in just four innings on Tuesday, as he slipped to 5-5 on the season, while raising his ERA to 4.16.

Wolf, who is 4-1 in seven home starts, will be making his first-ever start against the Tigers.

Detroit swept a three-game series from the Padres the last time these teams met back in 2005. The Tigers also took two of three from the Friars back in 2003.

The Tigers have won three of four, nine of 11 and 11 of their last 14 games, including Saturday's 7-5 victory in the second test of this series. Magglio Ordonez and Marcus Thames each hit two-run homers to power Detroit, which is 3-2 on a six-game road trip and 15-23 away from Comerica Park in 2008.

Curtis Granderson went 2-for-3 with a double, while Carlos Guillen also had two hits and drove in a run for the Tigers. Starter Nate Robertson got the win after allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings of work. The left-hander earned his fifth win in the last six starts.

San Diego has lost five of six games and fell to 1-1 on a nine-game homestand following last night's loss. Cha Seung Baek started for the Padres and was saddled with the loss in his 6 1/3-inning stint. He surrendered six runs on eight hits in defeat.

Michael Barrett finished 2-for-3 with a two-run homer for San Diego, while Jody Gerut had three hits, Khalil Greene tripled and drove in a run and Edgar Gonzalez had two RBI.
