Chicago White Sox (42-35) at Los Angeles Dodgers (36-41), 3:10 p.m.

(Sports Network) - A pair of young left-handers with bright futures will go head-to-head when the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox play the rubber match of a three-game interleague series this afternoon at Dodger Stadium.

Today's tilt features the seventh career major-league start for Dodgers phenom Clayton Kershaw, who's still yet to garner his first win in the bigs. The 20- year-old has been quite inconsistent since the promotion, having allowed two runs or less in four of his six outings but also walking 18 batters over a combined 29 innings.

Kershaw struggled in Friday's 6-4 loss to Cleveland, in which the seventh overall pick in the 2006 draft received his third straight no-decision. He gave up four runs in five innings and threw just 47 of 85 pitches for strikes.

He'll be attempting to duplicate a masterful performance by teammate and fellow southpaw Eric Stults in Wednesday's clash between these teams. The Dodgers hurler limited Chicago to four hits in recording his first career shutout as Los Angeles evened this series with a 5-0 win.

Stults (2-0), making his second start since being called up from the minors to replace the injured Brad Penny, struck out three and walked just one in an impressive 116-pitch effort. He also helped his cause with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.

Blake DeWitt added a two-run double to help the Dodgers avenge a 6-1 loss to the White Sox in Tuesday's series opener. James Loney singled and scored in the fourth inning to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.

Los Angeles reached Gavin Floyd (8-4) for five runs (4 earned) on six hits over 5 1/3 innings to hand the Chicago starter his first loss since May 23. Floyd had gone 4-0 over his previous five starts.

Alexei Ramirez finished 2-for-3 for the White Sox, losers of four of their last five contests. Chicago had its lead atop the American League Central trimmed to just a half-game with second-place Minnesota's victory at San Diego last night.

The White Sox turn to John Danks in hopes of stopping their current slide this afternoon. The 23-year-old has come through more times than not this season, as his 2.80 earned run average presently ranks third among AL pitchers.

Danks has put together back-to-back excellent starts despite not being able to produce a win on either occasion. He held the Cubs to one run and five innings in a no-decision Friday at Wrigley Field, six days after the lefty fired six scoreless frames against Colorado on June 14. The White Sox wound up losing that game by a 2-0 score.

The ninth overall selection by Texas in the 2003 draft, Danks will be facing the Dodgers for the first time but has been tremendous in enemy parks this season. He has amassed a 2-1 record and a sparkling 1.69 ERA in seven road starts, having surrendered just eight runs in 42 2/3 innings of work.

Los Angeles halted a six-game losing streak against the White Sox with Wednesday's win, only the Dodgers' second in eight lifetime meetings with Chicago. The White Sox swept a three-game set from LA at U.S. Cellular Field in 2005 and took two of three encounters at Chavez Ravine in 2003.

The Dodgers are just 3-8 in interleague play this season.
