(Sports Network) - A pair of slumping cellar-dwellers in the National League West will get together tonight, as the Colorado Rockies welcome the division- foe San Diego Padres for the first of three straight games at Coors Field.
The Padres are last in the division standings, while the Rockies are only a half-game out of the basement. San Diego has lost eight in a row and 12 of its last 13 games, including Sunday's 9-2 loss to Seattle in the finale of a three-game set from Petco Park.
Edgar Gonzalez had two hits, including a double and an RBI, while Adrian Gonzalez knocked in another run for San Diego, which finished 3-15 this season in interleague play, the worst mark in the majors.
Padres ace Jake Peavy suffered the loss after being touched for three runs on 10 hits over six innings. The righty fanned six and walked a batter, and is now 4-1 in six career starts against Seattle.
San Diego veteran starter and future Hall of Famer Greg Maddux gets the nod tonight, and he is 3-6 with a 3.52 ERA in 17 starts this season. Maddux is winless (0-3) over his previous nine trips to the hill after suffering a defeat his last time out Wednesday versus Minnesota. He was reached for seven runs -- six earned -- and seven hits through 5 2/3 frames of a 9-3 setback.
The right-hander is 15-8 with a 4.01 earned run average in 28 career starts against Colorado. Maddux hasn't won since allowing one unearned run in six innings against Colorado on May 10.
The Rockies have dropped seven in a row, having suffered a 4-3 loss in Sunday's finale of a three-game series against Detroit. Troy Tulowitzki had a two-run homer and Yorvit Torrealba notched an RBI single in a losing effort.
Greg Reynolds allowed four runs on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings for the loss. The first-year right-hander had three strikeouts and no walks for Colorado.
Jorge De La Rosa will take the hill for the Rockies on Monday, and he is 2-4 with a 6.23 ERA in 11 games (8 starts) this season. De La Rosa last pitched Tuesday at Kansas City, when he permitted four runs, two of which were earned, on five hits through 4 2/3 frames.
De La Rosa, a left-hander, is 0-1 with a 4.91 earned run average in three career relief appearances against San Diego.
The 2008 season series between Colorado and San Diego is tied at three games apiece. The Rockies went 11-8 against the Padres last season.
