(Sports Network) - The Toronto Blue Jays shoot for their fourth straight win tonight, when they resume a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field.
Toronto notched its third consecutive victory with a 2-0 victory in Monday's series opener, as ace Roy Halladay tossed a four-hitter for his 10th career shutout. Halladay did not walk a batter and fanned six for his first shutout since July 22 of last season, also against the Mariners.
Marco Scutaro had two hits, including an RBI single, and Rod Barajas drove in the other Toronto run. Scott Rolen had three hits in the win for the Jays, who opened a six-game road trip on a good note and improved to 19-24 away from Canada this season.
Jesse Litsch gets the call for Toronto tonight, and he is 8-4 with a 3.82 ERA in 16 games (15 starts) this season. Litsch was 0-3 with a 6.46 earned run average in a four-start stretch until beating Cincinnati on Thursday. He held the Reds to one run and three hits in eight frames during a 7-1 victory.
The right-hander hasn't fared too well in his career against Seattle, going 0-1 with a 5.23 earned run average in two starts.
Seattle entered this series fresh off a three-game sweep of the San Diego Padres over the weekend and had won five of six games prior to Monday's loss. However, Halladay spoiled the party with his pitching performance on the mound.
Richie Sexson had two hits for the Mariners, who lost in the home debut of new manager Jim Riggleman.
After the game, the Mariners placed starting pitcher Felix Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 24, with a sprained left ankle.
Seattle's Ryan Rowland-Smith will make his first career start on Tuesday and is 2-1 with a 2.66 earned run average in 32 relief appearances this season. He is taking the place of Hernandez in the rotation and according to Riggleman, is expected to pitch three or four innings.
The lefty is 0-0 lifetime with a 4.15 ERA in two relief performances (4 1/3 IP) against the Blue Jays.
Seattle won two of three games against Toronto at Rogers Centre from June 9-11. The Jays went 5-4 over the previous two seasons against the Mariners.
