(Sports Network) - After one Milwaukee ace pitched last night, another will go Wednesday as Ben Sheets takes the ball in the third test of a four-game series versus the Colorado Rockies at Miller Park.
Newly-acquired left-hander CC Sabathia made his Milwaukee debut in Tuesday's 7-3 victory and hurled six decent innings for the win. Sabathia, who was acquired Monday from Cleveland for prospects, allowed three runs -- two earned -- on five hits and five walks with five strikeouts.
Rickie Weeks scored three runs to help his new pitcher and also had three hits for the Brewers, who rebounded from a 4-3 loss in the opener of this four-game set. Milwaukee is 4-1 so far on a 10-game homestand and 29-14 at Miller Park this season. It is also four games behind the NL Central-leading Chicago Cubs in the standings.
Sheets, meanwhile, has won six of his last seven decisions to improve to 10-2 with a 2.77 ERA in 17 starts this season. Sheets last took the hill on Friday versus the Pittsburgh Pirates at Miller Park, hurling 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball in his team's 9-1 victory.
The tall right-hander, who is 4-1 in six home starts in 2008, owns a 4-3 mark and a 4.25 ERA in nine career games against Colorado. Sheets did not factor in a 6-4 loss against the Rockies at Coors Field on June 6 this season after pitching six innings of one-run ball.
Colorado had won six of seven games before running into Sabathia, and fell to 1-1 on a seven-game road trip and 13-32 as the guest this season. Yorvit Torrealba drove in two runs last night and starter Mark Redman suffered the defeat after surrendering four runs on five hits and one walk in five innings.
Glendon Rusch will handle pitching duties for the Rockies on Wednesday, and he is 1-3 with a 7.36 earned run average with both San Diego and Colorado this season. In two games, one start, with the Rockies, Rusch is 0-1 with a 10.50 earned run average.
He last pitched on Saturday versus Florida and did not factor in the outcome of a 12-6 victory at Coors Field. Rusch allowed three runs, two of which were earned, and four hits in just 1 1/3 frames.
In 14 career games (eight starts) against Milwaukee, Rusch is 4-2 with a 3.59 earned run average.
Colorado won two of three games versus the Brewers at home from June 6-8, and has won seven of the last 11 meetings in the series.
