Baltimore Orioles (44-46) at Boston Red Sox (55-39), 7:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Right-hander Clay Buchholz returns to the big leagues tonight against a familiar foe, when the Boston Red Sox host the Baltimore Orioles in the opener of a three-game weekend series at Fenway Park.

A 23-year-old right-hander, Buchholz downed the Orioles in memorable style in just his second start last September, tossing a no-hitter and running his career record against them to 2-0.

In 12 innings against Baltimore, he has allowed one hit with five walks, while striking out 12.

The Nederland, Texas native was 2-3 through eight starts this season before heading to the disabled list with a broken fingernail on his pitching hand back in May. He went from the shelf to the minors and was 4-2 with a 2.47 earned run average at Triple-A Pawtucket before earning the recall to Boston.

For the Orioles, lefty Brian Burres tries to make it seven straight appearances since his last loss, which came against Boston on June 1.

In that game, at Camden Yards, Burres was touched for 12 hits and seven runs in four innings of a 9-4 loss.

He's 2-0 in five starts and one relief outing since, including successive defeats of Pittsburgh and Houston on June 13 and 19.

In his most recent outing, Burres allowed nine hits and three runs in 5 2/3 innings, getting a no-decision in Baltimore's 5-3 loss to Texas on July 5.

He's 2-3 in eight road appearances this season with a 3.98 ERA.

On Thursday in Toronto, Adam Lind's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Blue Jays to a 6-5 win over the Orioles, as Toronto completed a three-game sweep at Rogers Centre.

Starter Jeremy Guthrie pitched seven strong innings and Melvin Mora drove in two runs for Baltimore, which has dropped five straight games.

Guthrie allowed two runs -- one earned -- on four hits and left the game with a lead, but his efforts were thwarted by the Baltimore bullpen.

The Blue Jays entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 5-4. Baltimore closer George Sherill (2-4) took the hill and allowed a one-out single to Rod Barajas and Scott Rolen's double to the corner in right field put runners on second and third.

After Gregg Zaun was intentionally walked with the hopes of garnering a double play, Lyle Overbay's fly ball to center was deep enough to allow pinch-runner John McDonald to score from third.

Lind then stepped to the plate and ripped a single to right field and Rolen slid home for the 6-5 victory.

On Wednesday in Boston, Kevin Youkilis went 3-for-5 with a homer and four RBI, and Boston took advantage of a wiped-out triple play call in the seventh inning to rout Minnesota, 18-5, en route to sweeping the three-game set.

Jacoby Ellsbury posted the first four-hit game of his career for the Red Sox, who posted season highs with the 18 runs and 23 hits. Dustin Pedroia extended his career-best hitting streak to 17 games for Boston, which improved to an American League-best 34-10 at home.

Josh Beckett (9-5) earned the win despite allowing five runs in just five-plus innings of work. The ace right-hander, who has now won four of his last five decisions, also yielded eight hits and two walks, while striking out two.

The Red Sox have won five of their nine matchups with the Jays this season.
