Atlanta Braves (43-50) at San Diego Padres (37-56), 10:15 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Greg Maddux helped the Atlanta Braves win 10 division titles, three National League pennants and one World Series during his remarkable 11-year tenure with the organization. Tonight the future Hall of Fame pitcher will try to extend his former team's season-long misery on the road when he takes the mound for the San Diego Padres.

Atlanta fell to a major league-worst 13-32 away from home this year following last night's 4-0 loss to the Padres in the opener of this three-game series. Jake Peavy dominated the Braves over the first seven innings, while Scott Hairston had a double, triple and scored twice to lead the San Diego offense.

Peavy (7-5) held the Braves to four hits and fanned seven batters for the Padres, who had lost three of four entering Friday's tilt. Trevor Hoffman squashed a potential Atlanta threat in the ninth by striking out Brent Lillibridge and picking up his 17th save.

Braves starter Jo-Jo Reyes (3-8) was touched for two runs on five hits in just four innings of work. Brian McCann finished 3-for-4 in the loss, Atlanta's ninth in its last 12 games.

Maddux has had some recent struggles of his own, as the 42-year-old has not won in 11 straight starts since earning career victory No. 350 on May 10. The winless stretch is his longest since he went 13 starts without a win while with the Chicago Cubs from May 11-July 14, 1990.

The crafty right-hander is 0-4 with a 4.14 earned run average during his drought, although he's given up two earned runs or less in eight of those 11 starts. In his most recent mound trip, Maddux limited Florida to two runs -- one earned -- and four hits over six innings. However, he got little offensive support and wound up on the short end of a 3-1 decision.

Maddux recorded 194 of his 350 career wins as a Brave and garnered three NL Cy Young Awards while with Atlanta from 1993-2003. He has faced his former club 17 times previously, 15 as a starter, and is 8-5 with a 4.36 ERA in those games.

Charlie Morton, who has one major league victory to his credit, gets the starting assignment for the Braves tonight.

Morton has been hit hard in five starts since joining Atlanta's injury-plagued rotation in mid-June, with the 24-year-old bringing a shaky 6.84 ERA into this evening's test and opponents having hit .314 off him thus far.

In his last start, Morton surrendered six runs in six innings but did not receive a decision against Houston this past Sunday. That was considerably more effective than his previous time out, when the right-hander was rocked for five runs and eight hits -- including two homers -- in two-plus innings of a July 1 loss to Philadelphia.

The Braves swept a three-games set with San Diego at home from May 6-8 and have won 16 of their last 21 versus the Padres, including seven of the last 10 at Petco Park.
