Oakland Athletics (53-59) at Toronto Blue Jays (57-56), 7:07 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Oakland Athletics hope Gio Gonzalez can help them snap their eight-game losing streak this evening, as he makes his major league debut against the Toronto Blue Jays in the third test of a four-game series at Rogers Centre.

Gonzalez, though, will have his hands full after another crushing loss for the A's on Tuesday, as Kevin Mench hit a game-winning single in the ninth inning to lift Toronto to a 4-3 win.

Rod Barajas had two hits, a run scored and an RBI for the Blue Jays, who have won three of four, including the first two games of this series. Adam Lind and Marco Scutaro also added runs driven in.

Jesse Carlson (4-1) earned the win in relief, holding the A's hitless over two-thirds of an inning. Starter Scott Richmond allowed seven hits and three runs over 5 2/3 innings.

Bobby Crosby drove in two runs and Mark Ellis knocked in the other, while Carlos Gonzalez finished 4-for-4 with a pair of runs scored for the Athletics, who have lost 11 of 12 and 15 of their last 17 since the All-Star break.

Huston Street (2-5) took the loss and the blown save, as he was charged with three hits and two runs while recording two outs in the ninth. Greg Smith shone in the start despite a no-decision for Oakland, scattering four hits and two runs over six full frames.

So, now Oakland turns to Gonzalez, who was acquired this past offseason as part of the deal that sent Nick Swisher to the Chicago White Sox. The 22-year- old left-hander, who also spent time in Philadelphia's minor league system, tossed eight scoreless innings in his last appearance for Triple-A Sacramento, where he was 8-7 with a 4.24 ERA with 128 strikeouts in 123 innings.

Toronto will counter with righty Shaun Marcum, who is 5-5 with a 3.57 ERA, but is winless since topping Kansas City back on May 26. Marcum did not get a decision in his last start on Friday against Texas, surrendering six runs and seven hits in just 4 1/3 innings of a 9-8 loss.

In his three starts since returning from the disabled list Marcum has allowed 16 earned runs and 121 hits in 14 2/3 innings.

Marcum received a no-decision against the A's earlier in the year and is 0-1 lifetime against them in three starts with a 5.52 ERA.

Oakland has split its eight matchups with the Blue Jays this season and is 15-12 in the series since the start of the 2006 campaign.
