Toronto Blue Jays (60-59) at Detroit Tigers (58-60), 7:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Toronto Blue Jays aren't a team that is going to beat you with the long ball. With A.J. Burnett on the hill, they likely won't have to.

Toronto resumes a four-game series with the Detroit Tigers tonight at Comerica Park.

Toronto won the opener of this series, 7-2, on Monday, getting two hits -- including a home run -- and three RBI out of Rod Barajas. Barajas' long ball, however, halted a string of 47 innings without a homer for Toronto, which ranks last in the American League with just 80 home runs.

Alex Rios, Vernon Wells, Matt Stairs and Adam Lind also drove in runs for the Blue Jays, who snapped a three-game slide while winning for the fifth time in their last seven road games. Toronto is now 26-33 as the visiting club this year.

Shaun Marcum (7-5) got the win, going six innings and yielding only eight hits and two runs.

The Blue Jays hand the ball to Burnett tonight in hopes that the right-hander can win his fifth straight start. Burnett ran his personal win streak to four Thursday against Oakland despite allowing four runs for a second straight start.

Burnett is 8-2 over his last 10 starts and leads the American League with 159 strikeouts, four more than teammate Roy Halladay. At 14-9 with a 4.62 earned run average, Burnett can become the AL's third 15-game winner tonight.

The 31-year-old is 2-1 with an 8.68 ERA in four career starts against Detroit. That includes a home win on April 20 behind five innings of three-run ball.

The Tigers go with Zach Miner, who is 3-1 with a 2.31 ERA in four starts since joining Detroit's starting rotation. He faced the White Sox on Thursday and yielded just two runs, only one earned, on seven hits over six innings.

The 26-year-old righty is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA in four lifetime outings against Toronto, just one of those starts. He defeated the Blue Jays as the starting pitcher on June 10, 2006 and tossed two scoreless innings of relief against the club on April 20 of this season.

The Tigers will try to give Miner more support tonight than they did in yesterday's setback, when they managed just solo homers by Brandon Inge and Miguel Cabrera. Justin Verlander (8-13) suffered his fourth consecutive defeat, charged with seven hits and six runs over 4 1/3 frames.

Detroit has now split the first four games of its current 10-game homestand, a residency that they hope to get Marcus Thames back for. The outfielder has 21 home runs on the season, but hasn't played since Saturday due to a sore right shoulder.

An MRI showed no structural damage and Thames should return to the starting lineup later this week. He may also be available to pinch-hit tonight.

The Tigers and Blue Jays split a four-game set in Toronto from April 18-21.
