(Sports Network) - Right-hander Carlos Zambrano can replicate a July masterpiece in August when the Chicago Cubs host the Cincinnati Reds in the finale of a three-game series today at Wrigley Field.
A 13-time winner in his career against the Reds, Zambrano limited them to a single hit and a single run over eight nearly flawless innings in a 5-1 victory on July 9 at Wrigley.
He walked none and struck out five in that triumph, which raised him to 13-9 with a 3.10 earned run average in 30 appearances -- 26 starts -- against Cincinnati.
The 27-year-old has split four decisions since and is 0-1 with a pair of no- decisions in his last three starts, allowing 17 hits and 15 earned runs in 15 1/3 innings.
He is 6-1 with a 3.09 ERA in 13 starts this season in Chicago.
For the Reds, veteran Josh Fogg tries to end a five-outing winless skid.
The 31-year-old picked up his last victory on July 19 against the New York Mets, allowing eight hits and an earned run in six innings of a 7-2 victory.
Since, he's 0-3 with two no-decisions in 19 2/3 innings, allowing 29 hits and 20 earned runs.
He is 7-8 in 21 career starts against the Cubs with a 6.33 ERA in 108 innings.
Fogg is 1-2 in 10 road outings in 2008.
On Wednesday, Bronson Arroyo and Ted Lilly allowed a combined five hits in their seven-inning starts, but it was Jolbert Cabrera's sacrifice fly in the seventh inning that plated the game-winner, as Cincinnati edged Chicago, 2-1.
Arroyo (11-10) walked five but yielded just three hits to go with four strikeouts in a terrific performance for the Reds, who won despite recording a measly four hits.
David Weathers threw a perfect eighth inning, and Francisco Cordero struck out the side in the ninth for his 24th save of the season and Cincy's second win in three games.
Lilly (12-7) was the hard-luck loser, allowing two runs on two hits and a pair of walks in addition to seven punch outs. The left-hander has only lost twice in his past 14 starts, both coming to Cincinnati.
Mark DeRosa knocked in the Cubs' lone run while accounting for two of their three hits in their second loss in nine contests.
Chicago has won six of its 11 meetings with the Reds this season.
