(Sports Network) - If the Florida Marlins have any plans on reaching the postseason, playing better baseball on the road would certainly help.

Florida will resume a nine-game road trip tonight with the second test of a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field. The Marlins are 3-4 so far on the trek and have dropped seven of their last 12 games away from South Beach.

In Tuesday's 10-9 loss to the Braves in the series opener, Cody Ross belted a two-run homer and finished with three hits and four RBI for the Marlins, who fell to 32-34 as the guest and six games behind Philadelphia for the top spot in the National League East division. Mike Jacobs had two hits and drove in a pair of runs in defeat.

Marlins starter Scott Olsen did not factor in the decision and gave up four runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings. Kevin Gregg was saddled with the loss after yielding four runs and five hits in the decisive ninth inning.

The Marlins will hand the ball to Josh Johnson on Wednesday, and he is coming off back-to-back no-decisions after a personal three-start winning streak. Florida had won each of Johnson's first six starts since he was activated off the disabled list, but has dropped his last two.

Johnson previously pitched Thursday in a 4-3 loss at San Francisco's AT&T Park, where he allowed three runs and nine hits in six innings of work.

The right-hander will face the familiar Braves tonight. He is 2-1 with a 2.48 earned run average in seven career games (6 starts) against them.

Atlanta has won two of three since a six-game losing streak. Yunel Escobar provided the late-inning fireworks for the Braves with the game-winning RBI single to cap a four-run ninth inning.

Escobar, Gregor Blanco and Jeff Francoeur each had two RBI, while Omar Infante scored three runs on three hits and knocked in a run for the Braves.

Jair Jurrjens started for Atlanta and was ripped for six runs and six hits in only three innings of work. Will Ohman collected the win despite permitting a run on two hits in the top of the ninth.

Mike Hampton gets the call for the Braves this evening and he will make his seventh start of the summer. The oft-injured Hampton, who has been battling shoulder, elbow and leg problems over the past three years, is 2-1 with a 6.47 ERA in six trips to the mound this season.

Hampton last pitched on Thursday against the New York Mets at Shea Stadium, allowing three runs and eight hits in six innings of a 5-4 loss in which he received a no-decision.

The southpaw has an extensive history against the Marlins, having pitched to a 10-6 record, two complete games and a 4.54 earned run average through 23 career games -- 22 of which have been starts -- versus Florida.

Atlanta leads the 2008 season series with Florida by an 8-5 margin and has won four of the last five matchups between the teams. The Braves are 5-2 at Turner Field versus the Marlins this season.
