Philadelphia Phillies (75-62) at Washington Nationals (52-85), 3:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - While the National League East-leading New York Mets kick off a series against a tough Milwaukee Brewers club, the Philadelphia Phillies may have a chance to gain some ground in the division standings when they take on the familiar Washington Nationals in the nation's capital.

Even though the Nationals are currently riding a season-high six-game winning streak, the Phillies have won eight of the 12 meetings in the season series. Philadelphia is also 5-1 at Nationals Park this season.

The Phillies sit one game behind the Mets in the East and just split a four- game series with the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field over the weekend. In Sunday's 5-3 victory in the series finale, Jayson Werth continued to swing a hot bat and finished with a homer and three runs batted in to lead the way. He clubbed a pair of homers in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Cubs.

Ryan Howard had three hits, an RBI and a run scored on Sunday, while starter Jamie Moyer earned the win after allowing two runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. Moyer lifted the Phils to a 2-2 record on their 10-game road trip and a 36-33 mark as the guest.

Philadelphia, which has won seven of its last 10 games overall, will send Kyle Kendrick to the mound on Monday afternoon. Kendrick is 1-0 over his last two starts since a personal two-game slide, but did not record a decision in a 6-3 loss to the Mets on Wednesday in his last time out.

Kendrick, a right-hander, limited New York to a pair of runs and eight hits in five innings of work to remain 11-7 on the season, while lowering his earned run average to 4.83. He will face Washington for the second time this season after topping the club on July 31 in D.C. Kendrick gave up two runs in 6 2/3 innings of an 8-4 victory.

Kendrick is 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA in four career starts against the Nats.

Washington will try to stay unbeaten on its nine-game homestand, as it improved to 6-0 on the residency with three-game sweeps of both Los Angeles and Atlanta. It posted an 8-4 victory over the Braves on Sunday thanks to Aaron Boone's three-run homer in the eighth inning. Boone ended with two hits and four RBI, while Willie Harris added three hits and drove in a run.

Nationals starter Collin Balester gave up four runs on six hits in seven innings for a no-decision. Reliever Garrett Mock registered the win after a scoreless inning of relief for Washington, which is 29-39 at home.

Toeing the rubber for the Nats on Monday will be Tim Redding, who was 0-2 in three starts before beating the Dodgers on Wednesday. Redding gave up three runs and eight hits over six frames in a 5-4 victory over Los Angeles, improving to 9-8 with a 4.54 earned run average this season.

Redding, who has just two wins over his last eight starts, is 2-1 in four appearances versus the Phillies this season. The righty owns a 4-3 mark and a 3.15 ERA in 10 career starts against division-foe Philadelphia.
