Peoria, AZ (Sports Network) - Ryan Theriot was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and two runs scored as the Chicago Cubs rode a six-run first inning to a 7-3 win over the San Diego Padres in Cactus League play.

Felix Pie went 2-for-2 for the Cubs, and starter Jason Marquis settled down after allowing three runs in the first inning, allowing only those three runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings while striking out five. Marquis also had a 2- for-2 day at the plate and drove in a run.

Adrian Gonzalez's three-run homer off Marquis in the first provided the offense for the Padres, who managed just seven hits. Greg Maddux took the loss after allowing seven runs -- two earned -- on seven hits over four innings.
