Clete Thomas hit a two-run homer and Placido Polanco added a solo home run for Detroit, which pounded out 18 hits. Ivan Rodriguez doubled twice and Mike Hessman drove in a pair. Kenny Rogers gave up two runs on three hits in four innings to pick up the win.

Pedro Feliz belted a three-run homer, while Shane Victorino and Carlos Ruiz had two hits apeice for Philadelphia. Adam Eaton was roughed up for seven runs on 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings, dropping his spring record to 0-3 and raising his earned run average to 7.94. Tom Gordon also had a poor outing, allowing six runs on three hits and three walks in one-third of an inning.
