Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Mike Hampton pitched three innings of one-run ball as the Atlanta Braves edged the Cleveland Indians, 5-4, in the final exhibition tune-up before Opening Day for both clubs.

Ruben Gotay, just acquired by the Braves off the waiver wire from the Mets, went 1-for-3 with a run batted in for Atlanta, which opens its regular season on Sunday night in Washington in the first game in Nationals Park.

The news was not all good for Atlanta on Saturday, however, as the club placed pitchers John Smoltz and Chuck James on the 15-day disabled list. Smoltz is out with right shoulder inflammation while James is still rehabilitating his left shoulder. Both moves are retroactive to March 21.

The Braves are hoping that Smoltz will miss just one turn in the rotation, and hope to have him back in time for their April 6 game against the New York Mets.

Jake Westbrook started and held the Braves to two hits over four strong innings, with four strikeouts and one walk. Casey Blake went 1-for-2 with a run batted in for the Indians, who return home to host the Chicago White Sox on Monday to open the season.
