National League Game Summary - Milwaukee at Chicago

Final Score: Milwaukee 4 - Chicago Cubs 3

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Ryan Braun went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, and his two-run double in the ninth put the Brewers on top as Milwaukee rallied to down the Cubs, 4-3, in the rubber match of a three-game set.

Braun's double capped a three-run ninth for the Brewers off of Kerry Wood (2-1), who let up three runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout in the ninth, taking his third blown save as well as his first loss of the season.

Jason Kendall went 2-for-4 with a run batted in and scored for the Brewers, who have won three of five. Brian Shouse (2-0) earned the win for getting the last out of the eighth, and Eric Gagne pitched the scoreless ninth for his ninth save of the season.

Milwaukee starter Yovani Gallardo gave up three runs on nine hits in six innings, and stayed in the game despite twisting his right knee on a play in the fifth.

Carlos Zambrano held the Brewers to one run on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings, fanning three and walking two, and belted a solo home run. Kosuke Fukudome went 4-for-4 for the Cubs, who have dropped three of four.

"You got a two-run lead going into the ninth, you let one get away, it's a tough loss," said Cubs manager Lou Piniella.

Wood beaned Craig Counsell to start the ninth, and pinch-hitter Gabe Kapler doubled to left, putting runners at second and third. Kendall grounded up the middle for an infield single, plating Counsell, and Rickie Weeks walked to load the bases.

Wood fanned Mike Cameron for the first out, but Braun lined a shot to right, scoring Kapler and Kendall. Weeks, however, was thrown out trying to score from first.

"Kapler had a big at-bat, and everyone else was able to contribute. It was a nice win," said Braun.

Prince Fielder then grounded out to second to end the inning.

Gagne walked pinch-hitter Ronny Cedeno to start the home half of the ninth, but he fanned Geovany Soto, and Felix Pie grounded into a game-ending double play.

Zambrano put the Cubs on the board first with his 13th career homer, an opposite field blast to left to lead off the third.

Gallardo gave the Brewers a scare when he stayed down for several minutes in pain after twisting his knee on a Reed Johnson bunt play in the fifth. He stayed in, though, and pitched well through the sixth.

Braun's solo homer to left in the sixth tied the game, but the Cubs plated two in the bottom half to go back on top.

Mark DeRosa's sacrifice fly with the bases loaded gave the Cubs the lead, then Soto doubled to left, plating another run. Fukudome tried to score from first on the play, and was gunned down at the plate to end the inning.
