American League Game Summary - Seattle at New York

Final Score: Seattle 1 - NY Yankees 6

Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Mike Mussina tossed six strong innings, and the New York Yankees downed the Seattle Mariners, 6-1, in the second of a three- game set.

Mussina (4-3) scattered seven hits, allowing one run while fanning five with no walks for New York.

Johnny Damon went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and two doubles, scoring three times for the Yankees, who go for the three-game sweep of Seattle on Sunday afternoon.

Derek Jeter also had a three-hit day, driving in a run and scoring for New York, which has rebounded from being swept at home by the Tigers to take the first two of this set.

"(Mussina) was throwing the ball well. But you always want to make the pitcher feel like he doesn't have to be perfect," Jeter said.

Felix Hernandez (2-2) was roughed up for six runs on 12 hits in 5 2/3 innings, striking out three and walking three for the Mariners, who have lost a season- high four straight, and seven of nine overall.

"You gotta fight to get something working," Hernandez said. "Nothing was working today."

Ichiro Suzuki went 2-for-4, driving in Seattle's lone run with an RBI single in the third.

"We can't hit for them. It's up to them," Mariners manager John McLaren said.

With the game knotted at 1-1 in the third, the Yankees forged out a three-run frame and moved ahead. Damon laced a one-out double to center, and Jeter brought him home with a double to right-center. Bobby Abreu grounded out, but Hideki Matsui followed with a single to left, scoring Jeter.

On the play Matsui moved up to second on Raul Ibanez's poor throw, and Jason Giambi worked a walk to put runners on first and second. Melky Cabrera followed with a single, driving in Matsui. A Robinson Cano walk loaded the bases, but Morgan Ensberg flied out to center to end the frame.

Damon made it a 6-1 game with his two-run shot to right with no outs in the sixth, his fourth of the campaign.

Damon got the Yanks started in the first with a leadoff double to center, and Abreu knocked in the first New York run with a one-out single to center.

Yuniesky Betancourt laced a two-out single to right in the third, stole second, and scored on Ichiro's single to center, briefly tying the game at 1-1.
