Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Jason Marquis took a one-hitter into the eighth inning, and the Chicago Cubs downed the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-2, in the second game of a three-game interleague matchup.

Marquis (5-3) allowed four hits -- three in the eighth inning -- and one run in seven-plus frames, striking out one and walking two. Reed Johnson's three- run homer was the big blow for the Cubs, who have won five of six.

"The last three games he's pitch, they have all been winning efforts, and today was the sharpest he's been," Chicago manager Lou Piniella said of Marquis.

Roy Halladay (8-6) gave up six runs -- two earned -- on seven hits, fanning five and walking one. Brad Wilkerson had two of the six hits for the Blue Jays, who have dropped seven of ten.

The Cubs jumped on top with a four-run two-out rally in the second. Jim Edmonds and Mark DeRosa both grounded out to start the frame, but Mike Fontenot singled to left and Henry Blanco singled to right, keeping the inning alive.

David Eckstein booted a Ronny Cedeno grounder, pushing Fontenot across with the first run of the game. Johnson made Eckstein's error count even more with his blast to left. The homer, his third of the year, boosted the Cubs to a 4-0 lead that, behind Marquis, was more than enough.

"The toughest part was they got the pinch count up and the one bad pitch to Reed (Johnson), I would have liked to have it in more, but that's baseball sometimes," Halladay said.

Lyle Overbay's leadoff single in the fifth was the only blemish between Marquis and a no-hit bid, as the Chicago righty cruised through the first seven innings. DeRosa added a run in the third with a one-out RBI single, and Jim Edmonds made it a 6-0 game in the fifth when his fielder's choice grounder to first allowed Derrek Lee to score. Lee had led off the inning with a triple to center, his second of the season.

After allowing only one hit and two walks through seven innings, Marquis tired in the eighth. Rod Barajas, Brad Wilkerson, and David Eckstein all singled to load the bases, and send Marquis to the showers. Carlos Marmol came out of the bullpen and promptly fanned Joe Inglett and Alex Rios before issuing a walk to Matt Stairs, forcing in Toronto's first run.

Scott Rolen then popped up to end the frame. Overbay added a sac fly in the ninth for Toronto's second run.
