Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Curtis Granderson went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI as the Detroit Tigers racked up 15 hits in a 12-7 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the middle contest of a three-game interleague set.

Eddie Bonine (1-0), who had his contract purchased from Triple-A Toledo before the contest, allowed six runs on nine hits while striking out two over 5 1/3 innings to win his major league debut.

"It was fun. The guys picked me up with a lot of runs today. I'll have to improve on that outing and get better," Bonine said. "(I was) very nervous, but it went away pretty quick."

Marcus Thames and Miguel Cabrera each belted two-run homers, and Ivan Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with an RBI, as Detroit won its fifth consecutive game.

"I was impressed with Bonine. He did a great job, threw the ball over the plate," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "I liked him. He had a good ball game."

Brad Penny (5-9) lasted just 3 2/3 innings while allowing seven runs on seven hits and two walks to lose his seventh straight decision. Andre Ethier had two hits, including a two-run homer, and four RBI to lead the Dodgers, who have lost four in a row.

Penny will fly home to have his ailing right shoulder examined by MRI on Sunday. The veteran starter has been experiencing discomfort all season and had soreness in the shoulder during his pregame warm-up as well as after Saturday's start.

"We swung the bats...a lot of good things that happened for us," Dodgers manager Joe Torre said. "Unfortunately, we couldn't match up with it on the other end."

The Tigers belted a pair of two-run homers and back-to-back triples for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 7-4 lead. Cabrera's 10th blast of the year came with one out and scored Magglio Ordonez, who reached on a single. After a Jeff Larish groundout, Edgar Renteria singled then scored on Thames' ninth home run.

Rodriguez followed with a single and a stolen base, then scored on a Granderson triple. Granderson scored on Placido Polanco's three-base hit off reliever Scott Proctor before Carlos Guillen flew out for the second time in the inning.

The Detroit onslaught continued one inning later. Ordonez walked and Larish doubled two batters later to put runners in scoring position for Renteria. The shortstop reached on a fielder's choice and Ordonez scored on a throwing error by shortstop Angel Berroa. Larish scored two-batters later on a wild pitch from Proctor, and Thames, who also reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to second. Rodriguez drove Thames home with a two-out single to make it 10-4.

The Dodgers fought back with a three-run sixth as Ethier knocked out his sixth homer of the season. Russell Martin, who doubled to lead off the sixth, also scored on the homer. Juan Pierre's groundout brought home Delwyn Young later in the inning.

Renteria singled in Cabrera in the bottom of the sixth, and Larish singled in Ordonez in the eighth.

James Loney doubled to begin the second inning for Los Angeles and scored three batters later on a two-out infield single by Matt Kemp.

Detroit pulled even on a Granderson RBI base hit in the third, but a big fourth inning put the Dodgers back on top. Ethier's ground-rule double scored two, and he came home on a Young base hit to center for a 4-1 difference.
