MLB Game Summary - San Francisco at Cleveland

Final Score: San Francisco 3 - Cleveland 2

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Omar Vizquel laid down a sacrifice bunt in executing a ninth-inning suicide squeeze play for the deciding run, as the San Francisco Giants edged the Cleveland Indians, 3-2, in the first of a three- game interleague set.

Jose Castillo had two hits and a run batted in and Bengie Molina had two hits while scoring a run. Vizquel added the other RBI for San Francisco, which halted a two-game slide. Vizquel made his return to Cleveland for the first time since leaving the club following the 2004 campaign. He is the all-time games played record holder for an Indians shortstop with 2,602.

"I was really looking forward to this," Vizquel said of his return. "It was weird sitting across on the other side."

In a battle of southpaws, Aaron Laffey and Jonathan Sanchez (7-4) were dealing from the outset, allowing one run each over the first six innings. Laffey was pulled after loading the bases in the seventh, finishing with a one-run effort on four hits and three walks in 6 2/3 innings. Sanchez hurled 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball on five hits and two walks while fanning eight.

"I tried to stay down and away today," Sanchez said of his effort. I changed speeds with my fastball which was the biggest thing for me today. The reception for Omar was great. I just made sure I stepped off the mound so he could get his recognition. He deserves it. He was a great player here for along time."

Grady Sizemore and Ben Francisco singled with a run scored while Ryan Garko and David Dellucci had and RBI each for Cleveland, which has dropped two of three.

San Francisco pushed a run across in the eighth off Rafael Betancourt (2-4). Ray Durham worked a one-out walk and Randy Winn moved him to third with a single to right. Betancourt got Molina swinging but Kelly Shoppach threw the ball into center field on a steal attempt by Winn and Durham trotted home. Aaron Rowand popped out to end the inning.

"He made a mistake tonight," Indians manager Eric Wedge said of Shoppach's errant throw. "Hopefully that's one of those mistakes he'll learn from, as young players that are playing every day will do, and he'll be better for it next time."

Pinch-hitter Casey Blake just missed tying the game in the home half, sending a long one-out double off the top of the wall in left-center. Blake tagged and went to third on a Sizemore fly ball before Sanchez was pulled in favor of Tyler Walker, who got Jamey Carroll swinging to end the inning.

The Giants added a crucial insurance run off Masahide Kobayashi in the ninth. Rich Aurilia walked to start the inning and Castillo flared a single to right with Aurilia moving to third. After a groundout, Vizquel laid down a sacrifice bunt with Aurilia breaking for home as the Giants executed a textbook suicide squeeze play. Rafael Perez come on to record the next two batters, limiting the damage.

Brian Wilson entered in the ninth for San Francisco, allowing back-to-back singles from Francisco and Jhonny Peralta to open the inning. Garko struck out before pinch-hitter Dellucci plated a run on a force out at second. Shin-Soo Choo then walked to move the tying run into scoring position but Wilson fanned Shoppach to end the game and record his 20th save.

Sizemore led off the first with a single to right, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored when Garko ripped a two-out single to right.

San Francisco evened the score in the second. Molina singled to left leading off and moved to second when Rowand was hit by a pitch. Molina then moved to third on a double play groundout and scored when Castillo belted a two-out single to right.

Both pitchers turned up their game with Sanchez allowing a single and a walk over the next four innings while Laffey retired all 12 Giants batters he faced over the same span.
