Final Score: Milwaukee 2 - Atlanta 4
Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Jorge Campillo pitched seven innings and added two hits with a pair of runs scored, as the Atlanta Braves notched a 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers to avoid a three-game sweep.
Campillo (3-2) allowed just two runs and four hits with six strikeouts while going 2-for-3 at the plate. Kelly Johnson was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in for Atlanta, which had managed only four runs in losing the first two games of the series.
"I was just happy that when you're hitting in Chipper (Jones)'s spot there you get a chance to drive in runs. Any time you hit in the middle of the order that's what you want to do," Johnson said. "You want to be a part of big innings, you want to help drive in those runs. Having Jorge put the bat on the ball like he did and Gregor and all those guys (helps.)"
Mike Gonzalez allowed one hit in a scoreless ninth to pick up his second save.
Milwaukee's Jeff Suppan (4-6) pitched six innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out five in the loss. Rickie Weeks was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and an RBI for the Brewers, who had a four-game winning streak halted.
"I think you can take good and bad from each outing then you get ready for your next game," Suppan said. "(It was) just a couple situations where if I could've located a little bit better I think it would've been a different outcome. I tried to keep it as close as I could and stay in there as long as I could."
Campillo was part of a two-run rally in the fifth that gave Atlanta the go- ahead runs. Brandon Jones led off the inning with Atlanta's third double of the game and moved to third on Campillo's second single. Gregor Blanco followed with a single to score Jones and Johnson singled home Campillo for a 4-2 lead. Mark Teixeira walked to load the bases, but Suppan got the next two batters out to escape the jam.
Milwaukee threatened a few times, but came away empty. Corey Hart doubled with one out in the seventh and advanced to third on a grounder, but was stranded when Mike Cameron flied out. Weeks tripled with two outs in the eighth, but Craig Counsell grounded out.
In the ninth, Ryan Braun led off with a base hit, but Gonzalez retired the next three batters to end the game.
The Brewers took a 2-0 lead in the third on a pair of doubles. Cameron reached on a bunt single, advanced to second on a Campillo throwing error and scored on a Mike Rivera two-base hit. Weeks hit a one-out double two batters later to plate Rivera.
Johnson's two-out double in the bottom of the inning scored Campillo and Blanco, who hit back-to-back one-out singles, to tie the game.
Omar Infante left the game with a right hamstring strain and is listed as day- to-day. In the second, Infante belted his sixth double to the gap in right- center, but pulled up as he rounded first base and hopped to second.
Infante, who started for the injured Yunel Escobar, was replaced by pinch- runner Brent Lillibridge. Escobar jammed his shoulder in Tuesday's game and was out of the starting lineup. Lillibridge got his first major league hit with a two-out double in the eighth.
