American League Game Summary - Texas at New York

Final Score: Texas 2 - NY Yankees 1

Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Josh Hamilton and Chris Davis each knocked in a run to push the Texas Rangers past the New York Yankees, 2-1, in the opener of a three-game set.

Michael Young went 3-for-4, including two doubles, for the Rangers, who have triumphed in three of their last four.

Scott Feldman (2-3) gave up a run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings. C.J. Wilson tossed a perfect ninth to pick up his 18th save of the year.

Texas' bullpen retired the final 10 Yankee hitters, but reliever Eddie Guardado left the game in the eighth inning due to an inflamed left shoulder.

Alex Rodriguez hit a historic home run in the fourth inning for the Yankees, who have dropped six of their last 10 games overall. Derek Jeter went 0-for-4, snapping a 28-game streak in which he reached base safely.

Mike Mussina (10-6) was on the hook for the loss as he gave up both runs on five hits in six frames. He did strike out eight batters and walked only two.

The Rangers jumped on top in the third inning. Ian Kinsler slapped a one-out double to right and came around to score as Hamilton hit a blooper that dropped in front of right fielder Bobby Abreu two batters later.

David Murphy led off the visitors' fourth with a walk, moved to second as Marlon Byrd grounded out and scored when Davis doubled to center.

With one out in the bottom half, Rodriguez crushed the first pitch he saw into Monument Park, just beyond the wall in left-center, and it bounced into the left field bleachers.

The homer was the 534th of Rodriguez's career, tying him with Jimmie Foxx for 14th place on baseball's all-time list.

The Yankees threatened in the sixth inning as Jason Giambi clubbed a two-out triple to right-center, his first three-base hit since a July 7, 2002 game against Toronto. However, Frank Francisco came on in relief and got Jorge Posada to go down swinging to end the inning.

Jamey Wright threw the remainder of the eighth inning before Wilson finished the game.
