Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Alex Rios and David Eckstein each drove in two runs, as the Toronto Blue Jays used a seven-run fourth inning to defeat the Baltimore Orioles, 9-8, in the middle contest of a three-game set.

Rios and Eckstein both had two hits and a run scored for Toronto, which has won three of its last four. Vernon Wells was 2-for-4 and scored twice, but left following the sixth inning with leg cramps.

Nick Markakis homered and scored three runs in a three-hit performance while Adam Jones added a three-run homer for Baltimore, which dropped its fourth straight.

A.J. Burnett (9-8) failed to impress for the second consecutive outing, but got the win thanks to the superior offense. Burnett, who improved to 6-1 lifetime against the Orioles, allowed seven runs on seven hits and three walks in 5 1/3 frames. The right-hander is auditioning for a host of teams, as he now heads a short list of pre-trade deadline pitching commodities following Cleveland's dealing of ace southpaw CC Sabathia to Milwaukee and Oakland sending Rich Harden to the Chicago Cubs. He did fan seven, but was already coming off a disappointing six-run, 12-hit loss to the Angels.

"It's embarrassing to come out here and start like I did," Burnett said. "To get into that situation when you're not pitching like you're supposed to, it makes you think what's going on."

Garrett Olson (6-4) took the loss, as he was shelled for seven runs on seven hits in only 3 2/3 innings.

Burnett held Baltimore off the basepaths until Markakis ripped a single past second baseman Marco Scutaro in the fourth. Markakis stole second and came around to score on a two-out single through the left side by Kevin Millar.

"I just try to get myself into scoring position and let the guys behind me drive me in," Markakis said. "We battled back and did a great job we just fell one run short."

Toronto came back in the home half to load the bases with one out off Olson. Gregg Zaun drew a walk to tie the game before Adam Lind popped out. Toronto then put together a two-out, six-run rally that chased Olson from the game and handed the Jays a six-run lead. John McDonald singled in a run, Eckstein had a two-run doubled, and after Scutaro walked, Rios singled in two. Wells capped the flurry with an RBI single.

Lance Cormier, who came on for Olson in the fourth, allowed an RBI double to Lind in the fifth as the Jays pushed their lead to seven runs.

The pesky O's took a big bite out of the Jays lead in the sixth. After loading the bases against Burnett with one out, Melvin Mora and Ramon Hernandez plated a run each with back-to-back singles. Jones then cut the lead to one by stroking a homer to left-center, ending Burnett's stint on the hill. Jesse Carlson entered for the final two outs.

Toronto gained a bit of breathing room with a run in the bottom half with an RBI single from Scott Rolen off Fernando Cabrera.

Baltimore attempted to get back to within one in the seventh, but center fielder Rios gunned down Aubrey Huff trying to score on a Luke Scott line single, ending the inning.

B.J. Ryan retired the first two Orioles in the ninth before Markakis connected for a homer on a 3-2 fastball. Ryan then walked Huff to put the tying run on, but Millar flied out to center, giving Ryan his 17th save of the season.
