American League Game Summary - Seattle at Oakland

Final Score: Seattle 6 - Oakland 4

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Jose Lopez drove in three runs with a bases- loaded double as part of Seattle's five-run fifth, and the Mariners edged the Oakland A's, 6-4, in the third installment of a four-game series at McAfee Coliseum.

Lopez finished with two hits and two runs scored while Adrian Beltre had three hits and two RBI for Seattle, which snapped a three-game slide.

Mariners starter Miguel Batista, who was already starting in place of an injured Erik Bedard, was forced from the mound with a groin strain after coming out to start the third. Roy Corcoran (1-0) tossed 2 2/3 scoreless frames, becoming the benefactor of the M's big fifth inning, and earning his first major-league victory in the process.

"I'm just going to pick a ball up and call it the game ball," Corcoran said. "It doesn't matter if it's real or not. I'm sure my family is happy. I'm not going to tell them tonight though. I'll wait for tomorrow."

Donnie Murphy smacked a three-run double and Jack Cust hit a solo homer for Oakland, which saw a two-game winning streak halted.

A's starter Joe Blanton (5-12) was charged with six runs on nine hits in six innings to take the loss. Blanton matched a team record for losses before the All-Star break with his latest performance.

"The first four innings he threw great," A's catcher Kurt Suzuki said of Blanton. "Then he gets a couple of bad breaks and good players will make you pay."

The M's erased a three-run deficit and then some with a five-run fifth. Seattle loaded the bases with one out and Lopez cleared the bases with a double to left-center. Raul Ibanez followed with an RBI double of his own and Beltre capped the scoring with an RBI single to give the Mariners their first lead at 6-4.

Suzuki doubled leading off the sixth but was stranded and the A's failed to move another runner into scoring position. Brandon Morrow worked around a two-out walk to Daric Barton in the ninth to nail down his eighth save of the season.

"That's the fourth time since I've been here that a starter has left the game early and every time the bullpen has held on," Mariners manager Jim Riggleman said. "It's frustrating because Miguel was really firing."

Cust opened the scoring with a leadoff homer in the second to deep center, his 16th of the year.

Seattle tied the game on an RBI single from Beltre in the fourth but Oakland stormed right back with three runs in the home half off the newly inserted Ryan Rowland-Smith. Three consecutive singles loaded the bases with one out and Murphy cracked a bases-clearing double down the line in left.
