National League Game Summary - Arizona at Washington

Final Score: Arizona 7 - Washington 5

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Stephen Drew went 3-for-6 with two doubles and the go-ahead RBI in the top of the 11th inning, as Arizona overcame two comeback rallies from Washington to upend the Nationals, 7-5, in the rubber match of a three-game series at Nationals Park.

After blowing a two-run lead in the ninth and a three-run lead in the 10th, the Diamondbacks knocked two across in the decisive 11th frame to finish off a gut-wrenching victory.

Washington reliever Luis Ayala (1-5) hit Augie Ojeda to begin the final frame. After moving up on a sacrifice, Ojeda crossed for the game-winning run when Drew punched a double to the opposite field wall in left. Drew was thrown out at home on a Conor Jackson single, but Chad Tracy added an insurance run with a run-scoring base hit of his own.

Chad Qualls (2-6), who recorded the final two outs of the 10th, didn't let a third lead slip away, as he mowed down the Nationals in order to finish off the tough win.

Jackson and Tracy had three-hit nights for Arizona, which has won three of four.

Austin Kearns drove in three runs and Cristian Guzman went 3-for-5 for Washington, which has fallen in seven of its last eight games.

The final three innings spoiled what was a pitcher's duel for much of the contest.

Arizona's Dan Haren allowed just two runs -- one earned -- on three hits and two walks, while fanning nine in a brilliant eight-plus-inning start.

"All in all it was great game for us," D'Backs manager Bob Melvin said. "We showed some resolve, we showed some fight which we really haven't done in awhile. Obviously, the only thing bad about that game was that Dan didn't get the win. I don't know how you can pitch any better than that. He went out there for the ninth because he deserved it."

The All-Star was matched by Jason Bergmann, who allowed just two runs on six hits and a walk in a seven-inning no-decision.

"If I can do that each time out, I'll be happy," Bergmann said. "My fastball was a lot better than it has been tonight, seeing how they were reacting to it."

After five scoreless innings, Drew roped a two-out double off Bergmann in the sixth. Orlando Hudson followed with a scorcher back up the middle, and Drew came in for the game's first run.

With runners on first and second, the visitors tacked on another run an inning later on Alex Romero's RBI single.

With his pitch count at 104 heading into the ninth, Haren stayed in the game and allowed a single and walk to the first two batters. He was pulled in favor of closer Brandon Lyon, who gave up a line-drive single to Guzman to load the bases.

Kearns stepped in and blasted a shot to third. The in-between hop caught Mark Reynolds off guard and the ball rolled into the outfield, allowing two runners to score and tie the game.

Lyon recorded back-to-back outs, but another Reynolds error -- his third of the game -- loaded the bases. Roger Bernadina couldn't break through, however, grounding out to end the inning.

Jon Rauch came in for the Nationals and got two quick outs in the 10th before Jackson's infield single. Tracy and Reynolds roped back-to-back RBI doubles, and Miguel Montero raked a run-scoring single for a seemingly comfortable three-run cushion.

The Nats, though, rallied again in the bottom half. Willie Harris singled home Pete Orr from first, and following another Guzman single, Kearns came through again with a double that rolled all the way to the wall. Two runs came in to tie the game at five, but Kearns was thrown out at the plate later in the inning on Jesus Flores' bouncer to third.

"I really like the way we battled," Nats manager Manny Acta said. "It would have been tougher to be shutout."
