Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Armando Galarraga was perfect through six innings, and wound up allowing three hits and a run over seven frames as Detroit topped Kansas City, 7-1, in the final test of a three-game set from Kauffman Stadium.

Galarraga (8-4) began his outing by retiring the first 18 batters he faced, in a bid to become the second Tigers hurler in as many seasons to pitch a no- hitter. In addition, he was nine outs away from becoming the first Detroit starter in franchise history to throw a perfect game.

"I don't try to think so much," Galarraga said about his bid for perfection. "If it's in the eighth or ninth, yeah. In the sixth, there's still a lot of outs to make."

However, in the seventh, leadoff batter David DeJesus laced a 3-2 fastball for a line single to right which broke up the streak. Two batters later, Esteban German walked and Jose Guillen's infield single in back of first ended the shutout as well.

"Yeah, you worry about it," said Royals manager Trey Hillman on whether or not he was thinking his club was going to be hitless. "No doubt especially since we're a team that's been no-hit already. Does it enter your mind? Yeah. I'd be lying if I said it didn't once you get to the fifth. Especially the sixth."

The Royals had already been no-hit by Boston's Jon Lester on May 19.

Miguel Cabrera finished 2-for-5 with three RBI for the Tigers, who took all three games in the series and have won four straight. Magglio Ordonez added three hits and two runs knocked in, while Edgar Renteria picked up two hits and an RBI.

DeJesus hit safely twice for the Royals, who have dropped five of their last seven. Zack Greinke (7-7) allowed seven hits and five runs over six innings to take the loss, despite striking out eight batters.

Detroit picked up two runs in the first. An Ordonez single with two runners on put the Tigers on the board. Then, when Cabrera struck out, Ordonez was caught in a rundown on a pickoff move. He was eventually tagged out, but not before Placido Polanco crossed the plate.

It was 3-0 for the Tigers in the second on an RBI single by Renteria, and Cabrera's two-run hit in the third boosted the visitors to a five-run edge.

In the seventh, Detroit went up 7-0 on back-to-back run-scoring singles by Ordonez and Cabrera.

Casey Fossum and Todd Jones followed Galarraga with one scoreless relief inning each to end the contest.
