Final Score: Minnesota 11 - Cleveland 4
Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Brian Buscher's three-run homer capped a six-run first inning, as the Minnesota Twins trounced the Cleveland Indians, 11-4, in the middle installment of a three-game set.
Buscher finished 3-for-5 and knocked in a career-high five runs for the Twins, who snapped a five-game skid. Delmon Young had three hits, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs, while Jason Kubel was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
Scott Baker (7-3) gave up three runs on five hits in five-plus innings of work to notch the victory for Minnesota.
Cleveland starter Fausto Carmona (4-3) struggled in his return from the disabled list, allowing a career-high nine runs on seven hits with three walks in just 2 1/3 innings. Carmona had been sidelined since May 24 with a left hip strain. Tom Mastny tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.
Jhonny Peralta was 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored for Cleveland, which had won eight of its last 11 games coming in. Andy Marte added a solo home run.
It was a rough return for Carmona, who yielded six runs in the opening frame. The right-hander walked three of the first four batters he faced. Kubel then stroked a single to left to plate Alexi Casilla and Young followed with a base hit that brought home Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau. Two batters later, Buscher crushed a 1-2 changeup to the seats in right.
After a perfect second inning, Carmona ran into trouble again in the third. Morneau doubled to begin the frame and Young ripped a one-out single. Mike Lamb then belted a double to score Morneau, and Buscher followed with a two- run single for a 9-0 lead. Mastny had to rescue the beguiled starter and retired the next three batters in order to limit the damage.
Marte finally put the Tribe on the board in the fifth with his lead-off smash to right-center. Three consecutive hits by David Dellucci, Shin-Soo Choo and Peralta cut the deficit to 9-3 in the sixth.
The Twins tacked on two more runs in the top of the eighth on a Mauer RBI single and Kubel's sacrifice fly. Cleveland got a run back in the bottom half on Kelly Shoppach's RBI single, which followed a one-out triple by Peralta.
