Final Score: Arizona 7 - San Francisco 2
San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Randy Johnson threw seven scoreless innings, and Conor Jackson finished 3-for-4 with a home run, as Arizona blasted San Francisco, 7-2, to complete a three-game sweep of the Giants.
Johnson (8-7) gave up just nine hits, walked none and struck out two for the Diamondbacks, who notched their first series sweep since May. Arizona took all three games against Colorado from May 13-15.
"For me it's all about mechanics. I feel a lot more comfortable now and I'm making pitches when I need to make them," Johnson said.
Jackson continued his recent hot hitting, as he is now 13-for-20 over his past five games, with three homers and seven runs batted in. Mark Reynolds hit a two-run homer, while Stephen Drew finished 3-for-4 with two RBI for Arizona.
"This is a good feeling coming out of the break. We have had this in us since April," Jackson said. "We knew we had to pick it up on the road. I'm feeling good. There's nothing more I can say."
Barry Zito (5-13) took the loss after surrendering six runs on six hits and five walks in five innings. The left-hander had shown signs of turning the corner, having gone 3-1 with a 3.64 earned-run average in his last five starts coming into Sunday's contest. But Zito allowed more earned runs since a three- inning, eight-run performance on April 27.
"I started to nit-pick instead of being more aggressive," Zito said. "It's frustrating that I had a good approach the last couple of games and then I fell back into what I was doing."
Fred Lewis had four hits, including two doubles, and John Bowker drove in a run for San Francisco, which has been swept twice since the All-Star break.
After three scoreless innings, the Diamondbacks loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth thanks to some wildness from Zito. Orlando Hudson walked, Jackson singled and Reynolds worked another walk to fill the bags.
Zito then walked Chris Snyder to force in a run before Tony Clark hit a grounder back to the mound. The ball bounced off the tip of Zito's glove and into the air as Jackson raced home. Clark, however, was thrown out at first base.
After Chris Burke was intentionally walked and Johnson lined out, Drew slapped a single into left field to plate two runs for a 4-0 lead.
In the fifth, Jackson hit a one-out single and Reynolds slammed a pitch barely over the left field fence for the home run, and a 6-0 Arizona lead. Jackson's solo shot in the seventh tacked on another run for the visitors.
Johnson worked out of any trouble he had all day, and in the home seventh stranded runners on second and third by getting Emmanuel Burriss to ground out. He was lifted in the eighth for Chad Qualls, who let up a run when Aaron Rowand grounded into a double play with runners on the corners.
Bowker's one-out RBI single in the ninth made it a 7-2 game, but Tony Pena managed to escape further damage and end the contest.
