Final Score: Chicago WSox 5 - Minnesota 6
Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Justin Morneau's three-run double in the fifth capped a four-run comeback for the Minnesota Twins in a 6-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox in the second game of a four-game set.
Glen Perkins (8-3) allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four in six innings of work as the Twins won their fourth consecutive game and pulled within a half-game of the AL Central-leading White Sox.
Joe Mauer was 2-for-4 with two RBI while Carlos Gomez was 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
"He's doing a good job. He's learning a new pitch right now, he's throwing a slider," Mauer said of Perkins. "He gave us a good performance tonight."
Clayton Richard (0-1) got his first career loss in his second start as he gave up five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three in 4 2/3 innings for Chicago, which has lost three games in a row.
"Nobody said it was going to be easy, but you know this isn't the time to start watching the (standing,)" White Sox catcher Toby Hall said. "With this many games left you just got to go out there and win everything and let the cards play at the end."
Brian Anderson and Nick Swisher each hit solo home runs for Chicago while Josh Fields hit a two-run double in the loss.
Trailing, 4-0, Minnesota took control with a five-run fifth that was capped by a Morneau bases-clearing double. Mike Redmond led off with a single and moved to second on a Brendan Harris walk before Gomez hit an RBI single to score Redmond two batters later. After Denard Span followed with a walk, Joe Mauer hit an RBI single and Morneau followed with a double to clear the bases for a 5-4 lead.
Minnesota added an important run in the eighth on a Mauer RBI single that scored Gomez.
In the top of the ninth Swisher's full-count, broken-bat blast to right brought Chicago within a run before Joe Nathan got Carlos Quentin to ground out to end the game and pick up his 29th save of the season.
Carlos Quentin's RBI groundout in the first scored Orlando Cabrera, who led off with a single and advanced to second on a balk, for a 1-0 lead. Chicago made it 3-0 in the second when Jim Thome led off with a walk before consecutive one-out doubles by Alexei Ramirez and Fields, who drove Thome and Ramirez home.
Anderson's fifth-inning lead-off home run, his sixth, pushed the lead to 4-0.
